You use those evaporative cooling products in somewhere like Florida, and you'd tear it off in 10-15 minutes because it would never evaporate, and it would just become hot and soggy. They're terrible in very humid environments. In 70-80% humidity, you walk outside and you're instantly sweating because of all the water in the air.
@Firsona
@Firsona 4 жыл бұрын
Same around here. I went outside the other day and the humidity was 100%...which I thought meant it had to be raining, but apparently not... X.x I wonder if you went with something that was more just the menthol and less the evaporation idea?

I think Florida may be more brutal than the desert. Sweating does nothing but make you disgusting here, no evaporative cooling at all.

The ice vest might be alright. I could throw it on around 1 or so when the sun becomes unbearable, go back and swap it out 2 or 3 times before leaving work.... MIGHT help. lol

Whenever I have to wear a suit I put a reusable ice pack in each inner chest pocket. They are unnoticeable from the outside and I get about 2-3 hours of very effective cooling and an additional hour of mediocre cooling before they are warm. Perfect for summer weddings.

The metal on back connects to a Peltier device, which uses electricity to create a cold side and a hot side, the plate on your neck is the cold side. Really cool stuff to learn more about.

The Ice vest works wonders. I did insulation removal for a summer. I was in an attic for up to 8 hours a day with breaks every hour. One attic I did was at an average temp of roughly 130 degrees Fahrenheit. The first week was without the ice vest and the following week was with the ice vest. It made a world of difference. If you work in hot and confined environments. I would def recommend a cooling vest. So worth the money. Also you can just make your own for half the price.

Non-paid review. Purchased to use on a daily basis while working in the summer kzbin.infoUgkxLaBdDhW8qNMDGbjLY54iyU3q9BJydYRP blowing into safety glasses so they don't fog up. Comfortable wearing around the neck. Not heavy at all nor does it slide around much. Easy to turn on and off. It's a solid construction with a slight flex in the middle. Doesn't feel cheap although the body is made of plastic. The battery currently runs over 8 hours on the low fan setting and takes USB C plugs to charge. Noise level is fairly mild and wind strength is good even in low setting. Only down side is if you wear contacts, it'll dry out your eyes since it's blowing up into your face. I flipped the vents down but this doesn't help de-fog safety goggles when I'm sweating. Definitely worth it over other fan types.

I work in a non-air conditioned warehouse where it gets up to 100+ degrees in the summer, and I use the ice vest all the time. If you do any kind of outdoor work or other work that puts you in a hot area, I can't recommend it enough. Trust me, it's worth the high price. That's my personal recommendation as it has worked far better than any other thing I've tried.

Just an FYI, my wife has MS, and she has two cooling vests that she was given by one of the associations that are battling MS. They came with multiple gel ice packs, and in 95 degree plus heat it lasts about an hour before it gets to wet to wear comfortably. It is a godsend for people afflicted with that disease. So the vest giving you an hour of reasonable comfort isn’t bad.

It's crazy humid and with a Heat Index like we had today(feels anywhere between 105-115°F), there is no Evaporative Cooling. The water in the air sits on your skin like a wet blanket, so the Cooling Spray would be even more useless. Glad to see Brandon! Where's Noah & her awesomely colored hair? I am in Australia (so yeah - heat), and I got the Cold Shoulder ice vest from a kick starter a few years ago. same principle as your ice vest, but was much better. proper collent packs (not just pure water). The vest was actually tailored and looked no different that a regular sleeves vest or waist coat. (black outside with a blue inside). The difference with the cold shoulder it was advertised (rightly) as a Weight loss process (specifically to force the core body chest/gut) to colder and thus trigger a fat burn. But during the summer I found them great, and yes after 90 minutes it would be melted, but by that time, the key point or bringing my internal CORE body temp down so that the cool effect lasted a few more hours after that. (great to put on about 30 minutes before bed, then take it off/freeze again, so you go to bed with a cool core). Was also designed/sold by an actual nasa scientist

@@erickt1974 learning to feel texture of wet I mean the patterns, the feeling of it on clothes is heavier. put your hand in water and you can feel the difference in pressure and currents. feeling of water droplets is the pattern that it sits on your skin with the temperature change. ig we couldnt feel temperatures you could feel wet either

Wooohooo! For a long time didn't have a very effect AC in my house in the northish-east coast. It got pretty dang hot during summer. I "invented" the "coolest" thing. I bought a bunch of long sleeve thin t-shirts. I soaked them in water and put them in the freezer. When it gets really hot, I get one out, pound it on the floor to loosen it up and put it on. WOOOOHOOOOO! With a good fan it's like personal AC. Works well outside for a short bit. I did see this used on a TV commercial sort of. I forget the product but a guy comes in to his apartment during hot weather, pulls boxers out of the freezer and puts them on. The tag line was that's how it feels to drink their soda or use their mints... forget what the product was. I never tried boxers but the frozen tshirt works great.

The vests with the frozen gel packs seem to work really well. My company bought some Techniche brand ones that I wore yesterday. It was 100⁰ with a 114⁰ heat index and over 90⁰ humidity, and that thing held up amazingly well. When I changed the frozen inserts 3 hours later, they still had not completely melted.

I get the impression that the expected benefit of the spray over regular water is the menthol part being activated when you sweat supposedly adding extra cooling effect even after the evaporating effect has ended. Not sure how well that would work, but I'm thinking similar to stuff like that roll-on/head-on stuff for pain/headaches.

In Florida if you touch some stainless steel furniture or a step barefoot onto a piece of aluminum it will feel refreshingly cool for awhile in a hot room. I googled it once and I think it was that the metal absorbs the heat from your skin but after a while it is saturated so won't have the same effect. On the ice pack vest I bought just the ice pack to experiment with and, believe me, blue ice last a lot longer. Medical grade. It is often used to keep medicine cool when shipped to customers. But, even with that, some brands are better than others. Fun video guys.

Sean, why the neck fan during surgery? Isn't the surgical room cold? Or is there some other reason? I'm an avid animal lover; please tell your wife I said "thank you" for her efforts on behalf of animals.

About 10 yrs ago Sharper image put out a personal air conditioner. It was a collar like the fans you have. Anyway you filled it with water put it around your neck. When turned on there were little port hole that sprayed fine mist of water to your neck . Damn thing worked great. Looked a little robot like but it worked really well. Took batteries & you had to fill it every few hrs. Don't know if it's still made but it would definitely work in Vegas. Love your channel.

The menthol just makes your skin feel cool when you start to sweat as it activates the menthol but it doesnt actually drop your core temperature. and for the ice vest why wouldnt they make it white? White repels more sun UV rays there for keeping it cooler and making the ice last longer.

You poor thing, we are in New Mexico and went to Tucson a couple of weeks ago and my son said it was like living in satans jockey’s lol!! Like you don’t even want to get out of the car. It’s hot here too but Phx is worse. My BMW was bought in Phx. It has everything except heated seats and I couldn’t figure out why, well it was a custom car and you don’t need heated seats there. The original owner omitted them. Crazy

I know there are hotter and more humid locations. But here in Arkansas we hit 98f with 58-70% humidity and the heat index was 106-109 . I wear a cooling vest that uses an ice alternative that freezes up solid in 10 minutes in an ice chest and last about an hour. The downfall is it weighs 10 lbs.. I work for a public utility in all environments. I think the best thing here for me would be Air movement. Trying to get the sweat to evaporate is the most important to staying cool. I would overall say the best one of the 3 is the vest. I have had mine for 8 years and use it every summer when I have to work in the sun where shade isn’t available.

My husband’s a biker and cooling vests are rather common with some of the motorcycling community - he has one that you wet with cold water, squeeze out and it last for awhile - granted, you have to re-wet it periodically but, you don’t have to wait for anything to refreeze. It also costs much less than this one, here. I do like the idea of the neck fans, though.

Nobody who lives in an environment with high humidity would EVER wear an evaporative cooling product. I can imagine how horrible and disgusting all that sogginess would be after just a short time. Those cooling products that rely on evaporation, although they don't last long, are meant for low humidity environments. Think about it....basically they are simply mimicking the way sweat works for us. The moisture evaporats and lowers our body temperature. Here in Ohio at least, it gets terribly humid and .the moisture would NEVER evaporate, and I for one would be miserable. I have used a combo fan and misting device when the weather is hot, and that works great. I basically have a few necklace fans that I cycle through all summer. Great review James...as always. BTW....you guys who live with low humidity....I am SO jealous sometimes! lol

I get the idea behind the cooling spray, but here’s a thing to try-peppermint oil. (Hear me out.). Rub a drop or two of peppermint oil on the back of your neck. You will feel a cooling effect. I learned this from a gentleman I worked for at my local renaissance festival. The summer I worked for him, we had a heatwave that was keeping the medical services busy.
