i didn't see F&G in its initial run on NBC,but in 2014 i watched a marathon of the entire show on cable, and was instantly hooked after the pilot. i just bought the complete series on dvd and am watching it again 10 years later. i really think it didn't need a second season in retrospect. in 18 episodes it took us through an entire school year, and said what it had to say. the fact that feig and apatow had the forethought to film a series finale in the middle of the shows first season because they feared cancellation was brilliant. the story lines in the finale were good, but lindsay discovering the grateful dead, and in the end ditching summer school for following the band was inspired. she had finally found herself and was happy. that's all the fans wanted for her. i had tears in my eyes as she boarded the hippie van with "ripple" (my favorite grateful dead song) playing as they drove away. you can't ask for a better ending to such a great show.

Fun fact: the guy who played, Gordon, is the person prominently featured in the Tip my fedora / Neckbeard / M’lady meme.

Loved the show. Still do :) Having now heard what the characters may have been doing in season 2, I'm glad it was never made. Although I would have loved to see more of the show, the ending just made me feel empty and unresolved and by the sounds of it season 2 probably would have been terrible. Long live season 1 :D

CORRECTION: Martin Starr, a brilliant young actor, was 15 - turned 16 when the pilot first aired in 1999.

Seth Rogan was 17 at the start of filming too, and was still going to highschool.

Some of these I had in fact heard before. Also, Seth Rogen was younger than 21.

Imagine being the jackasses at NBC that decided to cancel this HUGE hit.

From what I’ve read, the exec who cancelled it did not get the concept of the realities of public high school. He was a trust fund baby that went to boarding school before going to an Ivy League university. He wanted more of 90210 or what Glee would later become.

@@deanfowlkes so he was completely out of touch with reality. Makes sense as to why he was an exec.

Garth Ancier. He took over after the show had been picked up and the pilot filmed.

The flair of this show really heats up If you view it as just one big movie instead of 18 episodes. Basically it was!

I think they should have did it as a movie rather than a TV show. Maybe there would have been a sequel.

Only commenting because it wasn't in the video; Martin Starr was also iN Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Incredible Hulk, as apparently, the same character.

Yeah, it's cool because he always ends up going from "geeky loser" to "cool nerd" as seen in Silicon Valley and the MCU Spider-Man films playing both roles equally well!!
