Qualche giorno fa ci ha lasciato una figura leggendaria delle sei corde: Allan Holdsworth. La comunità musicale gli ha rivolto delle belle parole mostrando allo stesso tempo grande solidarietà alla famiglia, contribuendo tramite una campagna di crowdfunding alla raccolta di fondi destinati alla celebrazione dei funerali. Probabilmente verrà anche istituito un memorial in suo nome. Riflettevo su come spesso e volentieri (la storia ci insegna) la morte sia sinonimo di "consacrazione" per un artista. La genialità di Holdsworth cammina di pari passo con la sua libertà di pensiero, con la capacità di essersi sin da subito svincolato dagli schemi e dai dettami imposti sia dal sistema didattico musicale moderno che dal business della musica. Ciò ha fatto si che non gli si venissero riconosciuti parecchi dei suoi meriti in vita o, ancor peggio, che venisse stigmatizzato spesso e volentieri semplicemente perché l'ascoltatore non riusciva a coglierne l'essenza.
L'eredità degli artisti scomparsi permane nei dischi. Ma se fossimo noi stessi a "mantenerli vivi" continuando a suonarli, oltre che ad ascoltarli?
Questo è il mio umilissimo tributo a "Fred".

A few days ago a truly legendary figure of the six strings has left us: Allan Holdsworth. The music community had some beautiful words for him and showed great solidarity with the family, contributing through a crowdfunding campaign to fundraising for funeral celebrations. There will probably also be a memorial in his name. I was thinking about how often (history teaches us) death is really close to "consecration" for an artist. Holdsworth's genius coexists with his freedom of thought, with the ability to immediately get rid of the patterns and dictates imposed by both the modern music teaching system and the music business. This meant that many of his merits were not acknowledged, or that he would often be stigmatized simply because the listener could not get the essence of his works.
The legacy of missing artists remains in the records. But what if we "keep alive them" by continuing to play their music besides listening to it?
This is my humble tribute to Fred.
Anyway everyone feel free to download the backing track and have a take on it. I guess Allan would appreciate it!

I used to listen really often Alan H in the 80's and 90's. I heard your great cover and learn at the end that he passed away last year....i'm so sad because his work was really important for me... Very nice cover, good job on the backtrack. Congratulation. Well played solo, and beautiful solo tone - it's a pleasure for my ear to listen. Those pickups are amazing, I like when you pick softly at the beginning of the solo and it makes it so warm and crunchy and then, when you pick it harder it gets so punchy. // Even my 3 months old baby likes to listen it, makes him calm. :)

I thought that opening progression went B major second inversion the F# triad second inversion then to the A second and an A with a D in the lead then a D major triad in second inversion? Anyone else?

@@danieljohnson2562 it might be a deliberate choice of the arrangement. If he was to duplicate the piece exactly he would also have the classic AH guitar sound. He doesn't and the performance is all the better for it. I am prepared to extend this ethos to the "wrong" chord too.
