@@ЕкатеринаДоброва-ь3з No it's precisely the accent that is. (remembering Bill Hader's impersonating John Malkovich: "But I don't speak like that" - "No, this is exactly how you speak"). I'm impressed by Fred's abilities to do accents, and immediately liked his comic abilities too. Actually I first discovered Fred Armisen yesterday in SNL shorts "The Californians", and I got there from the comment section under a post on Reddit which represented some accents as either funny or normal. As for Minsk, it's not in Russia. And Sydney is not in England, so why do they speak English there? +Shinigiffy “White Russia” is an inappropriate translation. It's a term coined back in the XVIII century by a Russian Empress to diminish national identity of then “Litva” (at that time the Ukraine was called “Small Russia”). Unfortunately that's still used in German for instance and by Russians (for obvious reasons), however “Belarus” means “White Rus”, and that's more accurate, as “Rus” was a name used for couple of duchies in that lands (e.g. Polotsk Rus) before the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (or rather, Litva, which was the name for Belarus, while “Lietuva” was the name for Lithuania). But thanks to the Russian politics and people's ignorance “Litva”/“Belarus” identity is on a couple of hundred year old trip to diminishing. I don't expect anyone to know all that, but Belarus is not Russia, not yet at least.

it really wasnt^^ hes speaking this stereotypical german accent, like americans often try to do. hamburg is not the most educated place in germany, in fact its at the very bottom with the two other city states bremen and berlin. what he claimed about hamburg is rather true for munich, since most people there speak "high german (Hochdeutsch)" and a subtle form of the bavarian accent. in hamburg you speak "low german (Niederdeutsch/Plattdeutsch)". he is kinda right about berlin, but then again didnt hit any nuances; like, not at all. just lsiten to it if you dont belive me... but then again, his comedy style is very ironic, so one shouldnt take his sillies and goofs all to seriously.

Okay, I come to watch this a bit late, but it's great! His distiction between Munich, Berlin and Hamburg is actually pretty spot on. Maybe the Hamburg slang could be a bit more snide, but apart from that it's really good!

@@gbessone Well not to be specific he did say he can do accents of even specific cities. And in Belarus people speak belarussian, as well as russian but they have their own main language that is different. But the thing that is the strangest to me is I always hear people knowing about the city Minsk and always assuming it is in Russia. Its like saying Toronto is in the states lol
@gbessone4 жыл бұрын
@@alinasvids Alina this is not true, in Minsk people speak Russian. Not belarusian. This is why he compares it to Moscow. Belarusian is mostly a dead language spoken only in some small villages by some elderly people. But in Minsk you won't hear people speaking belarusian in the streets at all, and most people don't even understand this language.

I grew up in North Dakota. He said the state name perfectly in the right accent. It's just something that sounds specific and different. Even now, 22 years after leaving the state, saying the name alone will sometimes throw me into that accent.

I am from Germany and his first reaction to Hamburg ("Hamburg, ja natürlich", which contains two sounds that do not occur in the English language and is therefore difficult for an American to produce) was so spot-on natural German that it took me off-guard and I spilled my drink.
