I try to think of Fred every time I address to swing a club, just to settle me down into his amazing rhythm......and it works every single time I pull it off. What a great inspiration he is to a rank beginner like me (at age 64).

“Everybody teaches a system. I just try to shoot where I’m aiming. I play by sight and feel not by technical thoughts.” ~ Fred Couples.

Easy for him to say when he already has a swing.

yeah, no one has swing thoughts anymore after they train for 20 years.

I try to watch Freddie’s swing (no sound on) before I play. In some way it helps me with my timing and tempo, also has helped me lower my handicap👍

Mee too. Worth than learning what so called good technic lessons.

(part 2:) Really, it's sort of comforting that even in the internet-explains-all era, a mystery like this can remain. Used to happen all the time with lyrics that you would either hear wrongly or not understand, and you would just take them to say or mean whatever you thought they said or meant. I did find out the flip side of this UK #1 was "There Ain't Half Been Some Clever Bastards," so...yeah. Genius-level appropriate choice for the vid of that beautiful Couples swing, at any rate.

+Willy Wonka How so? His swing looks very ugly to me.
@easterdm9 жыл бұрын
probably too athletic for most people to pull off. especially you
@chillskid9 жыл бұрын
Willy Wonka Speak for yourself, I have a very athletic golf swing. I just don't happen to think the Jim Furyk style swing is a good looking swing, it looks very awkward.

I do like tangents! :) And you have inspired me to go listen to some more Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Glad you liked the song choice for Fred's clip. Both geniuses, no doubt.

For students of the game, watch from roughly 0:04 to 0:34, if you count these swings in tempo with the music, you'll notice roughly 1=start takeaway, 2=pause at the top, 3= impact 4= club stops after full turn. Take Ian Dury to the course in your head, relax and play better!..... :-)

In his young adult days, this man's swing was so utterly silky smooth, that it makes the "Modern Day South Korean =women=" look like 'wood choppers!' That's saying something, is it not??

(part 2 again:) Then there's the album _New Boots and Panties!!_ (hey, that _is_ exciting, though). And he appeared in Judge Dredd, among other films. But anyway, yeah...Fred Couples. Yeah. That was the subject. Damn you, internet. Damn you to hell.

Okay, now I'm just trippin' on this guy's song titles and lyrics. Try "Spasticus Autisticus," e.g. -- written in protest of what he considered to be the superficial and ineffective "International Year of Disabled Persons" (he was one himself, from childhood polio). Or "Reasons to be Cheerful, Part 3." (Reasons include, but are not limited to, "sitting on the potty," the cure for smallpox, and the pop song "Volare.") (ct'd)

who were the 19 idiots that did not like this???

I was just sorta kidding, but then I got curious and looked up the lyrics. It doesn't help. I thought surely it must be a personification of a drum, talking about the universality of drums and rhythm or something, but it's hard to tell from the lyrics. Like, what could "two fat persons, click click click" possibly mean? Dury supposedly said it had an "anti-violence message," but that's vague. (ct'd)

Incidentally, what would the command to "hit me with your rhythm stick" normally mean, outside of a golf context?

Yeah, cause there is a song called "Maybe from the 80s".
