Yo same. It is sad for me sometimes to see how underrated Fred is, only because he's such a prolific songwriter and has such excellent delivery.

@@lendanhoke9066 I don't think Fred ever wanted fame, I think if he did he would be very well known. Shoot I can't remember the story exactly but he declined a star studded limo ride to the Grammys for writing Time to Get a Gun so he could keep going on his tour in some small town. I absolutely love Tif Ginn too, such an amazing voice on her. Definitely a diamond in the rough, I fell in love with the travelling band a decade or so ago when a buddy convinced me to go see them live. Made every effort to see them (or when it was just Fred and Tif) every time they rolled through since, even drove out to some little towns they played in around here, pretty cool and a different atmosphere than big city pubs, pretty cool that they did that altogether.

Yeah, I suppose I could have expressed myself with a touch less adoration and idealism. Like you said, if Fred was gonna set his mind to something like he did creating pristine art, he would get it done I assume. I wholeheartedly just wish for more to be exposed to the eloquently rough and beautifully tumbled poetry and music that I've had the delight of finding.

Fred Eaglesmith is a man of the people. He made some money writing a hit for Toby Keith and now he does what he wants. In May 2020 he was supposed to play Commanda, Ontario, population 100. A big name going to small places. Done it for years. Wish I could have seen Fred in the community centre with all my neighbours. Thanks Harri

I live in Calgary and have driven to a couple of his shows in small towns heh. Not quite the same when it was just him and Tif but still a great show in the small town atmosphere, one was on a farm with a music hall 20 miles from anywhere. Seeing him with the travelling band was probably the best show I have ever been to. Hopefully they're back on the road soon

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Fred is considered what's termed "alt country". If you liked this song, may I suggest giving a listen to his song "I Like Trains", which I find very musically interesting and the lyrics are wild.

He's got a lot of styles, country, bluegrass, folk, rock, blues. He weaves them together very well and is a very good songwriter. I would say Trucker Speed is more to the blues side. So many of my fave songs are of the Eaglesmith variety, try out 'Pontiac'.

An astonishing talent. One of the best singer/songwriters ever. You really need to check some other songs like Freight Train, Katie, Carmelita, Spookin' the Horses, Wilder than Her, Cigarette Machine, Alcohol and Drugs. It's a rabbit hole, but you'll be the first to explore it.

Fred falls into the folk and alt country scene. He is Canadian and a great song writer. He has a song that asks where were all the current Johnny Cash fans when he was struggling in the 80's. His wife Trish is a sweetheart.

Other great songs to check out by fred eaglesmith : White rose - a song about the death of small rural villages after new highways bypasses them. Time to get a gun - a song about a farmer contmplating whether he should buy a gun. 18 wheels - another great song about a heartbroken trucker. Freight train - guy wishes he was a train so he wouldn't have feelings. Katie - an old farmer thinks about his late wife as suburbia encroaches on his farmland.

He's a long haul trucker. They have a (mostly undeserved) reputation for taking lots of "medication" to make good time on their drives.

Not many artists are as good a storyteller as Fred, something that is sorely lacking in most "artists" today. So much of it is just produced to be a hit and has no feeling to it. Such a great songwriter... Hopefully they get back on tour soon

I think it’s a representation of being a trucker. Not being there for the family or woman. It’s the things given up to make it happen. Thing you do to make it happen for the business. Great song and a good review. It’s all about pride to take care of things. Make since??

Crazy when you check what genre he falls under is rock. It feels Bluegrass and a little R&B to me, correct me if I'm wrong. Elvis was his major influence.

Country maybe it's a stretch but with his other music I'd say southern rock But I will say this about the song in the 80s and 90s drug abuse and "outlaw trucking" was a big thing in the Industry alot of drivers was using a drug of some sort especially live stock haulers of any kind
