I don’t keep coming back to this clip because of Ebb’s voice. I keep coming back for the mix of genuine sincerity and joy he has while singing this song. It’s truly beautiful.

Most of the time you'd think they're just bullshitting, but you can tell these guys really love each other. It's really nice to see. :)

god- i love this. RIP Fred Ebb and while i’m at it, RIP Bob Fosse, too, for bringing this to the consciousness of American culture in such a wonderfully talented way.

What a charming song for all its pathos. Ranks right up there with "Me and my Shadow." Same general therme.

Proof you don't need a great voice to put over a song - I never heard him sing before -

2/22/22 22:22 - True Story I Officially took the title of "Mr. Cellophane". I was at Twin Peaks, where else would I be on Twosday ? I had been there for about 2 hours, ordered beers and dinner. Went to the restroom and came back to the bar, only moved a few seats down. Not even on the opposite side of the bar, didn't take my glasses off, didn't shave my goatee or cut my hair... only took off my jacket. Sat down and the Same beautiful young lady asked me how I was doing tonight and if I wanted anything to drink and if I wanted to order any food. Like I had just walked in. It was a pretty slow night compared to most nights too. Even heard one girl ask the other girl where the guy a few seats down went to. After a couple of shots, I said, "Doesn't it suck when a guy walks out on his bill ?" She said, "Yeah, it does." So I offered to pay "the guys" bill, to which she said, "Are you sure ?" I told her I was, to which she said, "You're sweet." Now, when I Do happen to get noticed, I get called a few different names, but being called "sweet" for paying my Own bill ? That's a Real First !
