That's because he is. Commissioned is not an active group. They are doing reunion gigs. How do you quit a group that isn't even together? If he chooses not to do the reunion, cool. Technically he isn't the only member who won't be there anyway. This doesn't have to be a big deal at all.

I also didn't know Commissioned were still a group. Fred Hammond has long since made solo music and I'm not sure when the last time I heard music from him being with the group. Fred Hammond is one of my absolute favorite gospel voices to hear. In all honesty, his voice stands out alone. Respectfully, they'll need him, but he does just fine as a solo artist.

As mentioned, Commissioned started a tour in 2019. I attended the Commissioned Reunion Tour in November 2019. There was no new music but it was a fun concert of their catalog. Fred did a “new” song that didn’t include the other members.

But, Fred left decades ago. His solo project ‘Pages Of Life’ came out 25 years ago. That’s how long he’s been a solo artist. So, I’m genuinely confused as to why people thought he was in Commissioned. He would sing with them occasionally and try to do reunions for the fans, but he left decades ago.

@@heartstrings110 Actually, Fred's time spent with Radicals For Christ (RFC) wasn't his solo era. RFC was created AFTER Fred went solo with 2 or 3 solo projects he released featuring himself! It was after that time that Fred created RFC in an attempt to enter into a Praise-n-Worship movement. Fred's initial exodus from the original Commissioned was due to his desire to change the sound of Commissioned into a Praise-n-Worship deal. But the rest of the group did not share the same desire, so Fred bounced.

Commissioned Reunion was on tour in mid-late 2019. I saw them in November 2019 when they came to NYC. ALL of the ORIGINAL guys were there - even Pastor Michael Brooks. They were planning to take the tour out West after the holidays, but the Coronavirus started to crank up which put everything and everybody on hold. But even after that, Fred posted a short video with a couple of the guys which hinted that the group was working on new music. He even played a snippet of something that sounded REAL promising.... But I guess that's all over now. 🥺

A couple years ago, I know Commissioned was working on a bio pic and it's a video somewhre on the internet with all of them sitting together with Kirk Franklin talking about the possible movie, their career's, their influence on gospel music..ect, but I guess the movie didn't really get any further traction than talking about it. And this was even before the Clark Sisters bio pic came out Commissioned were talking about it. Plus, I listened to Questlove's podcast earlier this year and he had Fred on and he kind of hinted on some behind the scene conversations between them that brought back up past sore spots and hurt feelings within the dynamics of the group.

I saw the interview with Kevonstage when it first came out about 3-4 months ago. The interview came off as a woe is me thing. I would suggest that you find the interview with Bishop Michael Brooks. He was the main songwriter/producer/arranger. He gave clarity to how the group was formed. There was no “leader” per se. The group was formed organically. No one had the official title of leader. Mike Brooks, Mitchell Jones, and Parkes Stewart were the PRIMARY songwriters. Without them there would be no Commissioned. Every time you listen to I’m going on, Strange Land, Ordinary just won’t do, Keep on Blessing me, Back in the Saddle, Cry on. All of the MAJOR singles. Think of those three brothers. People act like when Marvin Sapp joined the group that that’s when Commissioned was formed..🤨🤨🧐🧐😒😒…There were five other brothers who put in the work BEFORE he got there..Soooooo Fred is NOT the sum total of Commissioned.
