I'm curious as to why Mastro felt it necessary to go for the wrist first and not the throat/ solar plexus, like he showed later on. As always good stuff!!
@savagemaestro7 жыл бұрын
Just an assumption on my part, but most likely for the same reason why a boxer leads with a jab instead of a cross. Target distance ad economy of motion. Also, keep in mind that Fred assumes that your target is not just some clown on the street. A trained fighter is most likely going to be instinctively inclned to protect the head, neck, groin, etc. The distamce from the hand to head is enough to allow the possibility of a counter or evasion, meanwhile, your wrist is still being controlled. If the aggressor simply drops his head, weaves to the side or changes levels for a takedown, he already has one wrist, and your other arm would be extended, you'd have to recover before you could even respond to his counter. That's just my personal take away, , Fred actually explains it a bit at 3:38).
@kybalion8487 жыл бұрын
If you used this on a trained fighter, they would only need to throw a left hook and your day is over. Even against someone untrained this is not very good.
@Mephistoau7 жыл бұрын
Except for the fact that clearly none of this is full speed. The speed that the elbow to backfist/forearm strike can be dealt is ridiculous as it follows a natural flow, and if you pay attention to his body positioning his shoulder is offering protection for weaker section of the skull (the jawline) anyway. Very similar to how a boxer primes an uppercut or a body hook. Very easy to be an expert behind the keyboard, you clearly haven't done any training.
@Octopussyist7 жыл бұрын
There are situations where you don't want both your hands occupied too long - like when you just want to make a Houdini. And even though he may have his favourite technique that doesn't have to be my favourite and yours may be a third version. I am not as big as Fred Mastro so I would go for the one that liberates my hands as fast as possible ...

I have pros and cons about him , I do like one cut one kill. What I don't like as an instructor the constant hard contact so he can show how badass he is. I'm sure he is. That's the reason equipment was introduced.even in actual battles way back they wore leather over areas to cut. Hard contact to pressure points is too ego. Ease up and let your teaching speak for yourself.

while i agree it was a little excessive. i gotta say, the man that stood there and took it is going to be a tough cookie. being able to withstand punishment like that is training unto itself. but whatever.

He ain't hit hard to look like a bad ass, he is just trying to sell his system with a theatrical trick- I ain't saying what he does is bullshit, I am saying the man makes a living as a combat instructor and the way hits he is trying to make a lot of noise to sell the idea of impact- it's the same thing pro wrestlers do but that ain't to say that if he was striking to do damage that it wouldn't work and a lot of it is pretty smart. These training are his other instructors, I would be willing to bet he ain't actually booting them squaw in the nuts and punching the shit out of them for reals because the ain't the demographic this is being marketed to, it's a defensive system for General populace or leos it ain't like some real old timey school of hard knocks cause these people don't want to have a Jason Born fight: they want to hurt the other guy without getting hurt by maximum escalation aggressive response to an attack. It's not like what people are used to seeing so the audible impacts help build confidence in the system for the people who are learning it.

Sans compter les divers facteurs... la maîtrise des arts martiaux, la condition physique, la mobilité, la carrure, etc de ton adversaire. Toutefois, pour les non initiés ça reste très instructif.

@jackbarlocks34413 жыл бұрын
...actually, the difference is, if they were having a realtime confrontation by way of a teaching exercise instead of this demonsterable, componential breakdown, the action from both parties would be occurring at a rate that an untrained novice would be unable to comprehend, and so, for the 'un initiated', this type of breakdown and the manner in which it is conducted is purely a babystep and introduction to the pathways and articulations, which then require the serious adepts to train into their muscle memory through much practice and repetition. The whole point here, is not to arm some fool with instant 'knowledge' that can quickly land them in trouble, but to demonstrate the technique in it's purest, simplest format in order to give people, who through their work, or life in potentially life threatening situations, an opportunity to train themselves and study something that gives them literally 'a fighting chance'. The techniques are solid, what falls apart is when these techniques are employed unpracticed by untrained novices in realtime situations, the adept has to put in a great deal of time and training in order to develop first, the respect and second, the mastery of the technique. How else could the techniques be demonstrated in their purest and most comprehensible format? The specialists who are kindly demonstrating this to us here are worthy of our utmost respect, also gratitude.

GRACIE JJ is so effective because they train exactly how they fight. The ACTUAL fighting is identical to the training, same force, same movements. I think Fred is doing the exact same.
