Thank you for the review. Also binged and thought it was brilliant and brave and gave a voice to victims of abuse. The connection with his parents really touched me, particularly his dad. Nice to also see new acting talents getting their air time. Will be keeping the netflix subscription if they continue supporting this content. 8/10!

I forgot to mention by the way that I loved how openly it approached and portrayed his sexuality/identity, including dating a trans woman. Felt it was massively progressive but simultaneously not tokenistic, just matter of fact.

It's not an accurate true story. If you read his interviews with him you will understand the context better. He goes into the bond people can get with the "perpetrators" and he says she was a victim too and not to blame the stalker. We don't know what we would do though. I hold no judgement. I got infuriated too but after some reading it made sense. Yes I too was like he looks too old. I don't agree with you though. It was a profound groundbreaking series I hope it wins many awards. Appreciate your review Fred🙏🏻

@@rachaelhutchings5659 thanks for watching! Just to be clear I’m not criticising the real life behaviour I’m purely reviewing it as a piece of drama

Yeah, i get that you're pointing out the flaws and how that projected onto screen which is what a good critique is about and afterwards you made got me thinking it was about a 6 or 7. I thought I've never "had to research" a series afterwards to that degree, or any degree really 😂@fredasquithYT

I had a few similar frustrations- most of all when he went to the police the day after he and his girlfriend were assaulted in front of multiple witnesses and he just… didn’t mention that? Lots of good things about this show though, I particularly liked how when the stalking stopped for a couple of episodes it was structured so that as a viewer you also feel her absence and start to miss her

Appreciate the shared frustration leading up to the abuse episode that put everything into context. I told my friend who I watched it with that it should have been a movie so the pacing could be better so that the lack of boundary setting in the first several episodes wasn’t as annoying and confusing. I did enjoy it ultimately and appreciate the way they discussed the implications of rape on male identified folks.

He got kicked out of the house when he told his landlord about the stalker... he desperately didn't want this to happen... which is the reason he kept it from her to begin with... i also think it's explained leading up to that by his ex saying something along the lines of "you can live here as long as you don't bring drama to my mums door'

He got kicked out of the house when she found out later though, which included the sense that he had lied to her. I think in reality you’d be totally honest *at the point of the cooking party because at that point it wasn’t his fault. Well that’s just how I felt anyway. Good point about the ex line!

Thanks for your review. I had a massive feeling of irritation about the show. Interesting point about is age appearance. I guess the problem with the choices and not very logical decisions is rooted in the abuse. When I remember correctly Tari, his therapist girlfriend, also said it out loud that he actually enjoys all of it and maybe even wants or "needs" it. I finished with kind of a negative feeling. That's maybe why I didn't really enjoy the show retrospectively. It's difficult to explain or pin down. Greetings from Germany ✌️

The way you interpret things as a viewer are totally different from how they are interpreted/seen at the time by the people experiencing them. Also, there are many personality types (and sometimes disorders) that would cause avoidance to conflict, need for validation, and basically deal with things differently than you have had, so i dont think its unrealistic, you just would have done things differently

I get what you’re saying but that’s not quite my point. What I’m saying is that it may well be how someone in his position would behave, and maybe much of it is entirely true to the real life events, but as a viewer of scripted drama who hasn’t lived through that sort of trauma the motivation wasn’t illustrated well enough for me personally - certainly before the grooming episode, but still even a little bit after that too. I’m not criticising the behaviour I’m only criticising it as a piece of drama.

That's shame! Makes you cover so many things up if it's deep enough. I think that the abuse really does affect people to that extent..
