Join me in this video after taking on the challenge to fix @FreddieDobbs Triumph Bonneville T100SE. This motorcycle is the central focal point of his channel and has been right there with him on many adventures from all over Europe to the Sahara, across the Atlas Mountains to the local coffee shop!
In this video we finally make some progress on the CCM/BSA special getting ready for the DGR. We get a version of the exhaust complete and in place. We also tidy up some loose ends on Freddie's Bonneville. Wheels, Chain, chain guard and find more issues with the brakes.
If you wish to join us for the DGR either sign up to the Tamworth ride or a ride from other midlands dealerships which are heading to the Triumph HQ Hinckley factory.

You'll have spent nearly 6 months sorting this bike, getting it absolutely perfect, better than factory, sit down to watch freddies latest video of him grabbing a coffee on his 19th holiday of the year absolutely thrashing it through some muddy gorge - and your heart will just sink 😬 But then you suddenly won't care, because a used and abused bike is far better than a museum piece 👍

Motorcycle front tires and rear tires have reversed tread directions simply because the front tire is designed to produce maximum grip under braking, as this is when it experiences the most load. Thus, the tread pattern is essentially the opposite of the rear tire tread which is optimized for good grip under acceleration.
@jjg1962
@jjg1962 2 ай бұрын
The tire direction is due to the direction of the join overlap. It's nothing to do with tread patterns. Racing slicks still have the same jobs to do but don't have any tread pattern; they still have to be fitted the correct way around!

Motorcycle 🏍️ tyres have an arrow on them to indicate direction of travel.A rule of thumb i've always stuck to is, when all else fails read the plans and you can't go wrong.

The Dunlop TT100s on my T140 have a symmetrical tread pattern in both directions, but they still have opposite rotation on front and rear, because of the construction of the tyre, and how it responds to load, not the tread pattern.

Bearing in mind the state of the discs and pads, it's surprising that the bike passed its MoT with no advisories, especially as the test for the year before had actually flagged up the worn discs and rear pads, which obviously hadn't been changed in the meantime. The thing with tyres is the modern ones have more Sicilian in them so although the tred may worry you about leaning in the wet they are very good compared to older tyres which had a heavier tread but did not grip as much. The thing is ride more in the wet so you develop more feeling on how the tyres are working, rem😢motorcycle tyres are softer than car tyres so trust them.

I've got an SE, and have found a lot of info on the models a bit contradictory. My Owners handbook lists the Bonneville range (2001 to 2015) as Bonneville, Bonneville SE, and Bonneville T100. From that, I'd say Freddie's is Just a "Bonneville". The SE is identical, apart from Chrome tank badges, brushed alloy engine cavers, twin clocks, and SE on the side panels. The T100 has polished engine covers, Chrome tank badges, rubber knee pads, twin clocks, spoked wheels, and T100 on the side panels. Could be wrong though.

I wondered if you could share your knowledge on how to go about fitting a bates style headlight (ie smaller) on an air cooled Bonnie? Please really want to do the conversion but don’t know what it takes to do it

So what is the difference between motors in a Speed Master and a Speed twin? Valve sizes? Cam? Combustion chamber shape? Compression? Intake manifold? Can a Speed Master motor be affordably modified to be completive with a Speed Twin?

Not sure pal, in presume you’re referring to the watercooled 1200 range? I’ll have a look into it…

Freddies is not a T100. Triumph had a few changes in their naming convention, which makes things slightly confusing, but at the time Freddies Bonnie was build, there where three Bonnevilles (+ scrambler, thruxton and speedmaster/america) on offer. The basic Bonneville, the Bonneville SE and the T100. The T100 was the poshest of the three, with a different handlebar and switch gear as well as different wheels (spoked wheels instead of alloys). And the T100 had some rubber gators around the fork tubes. And a tachometer as well as a speedometer. Freddies Bonnie hasn't any of these "upgrades" that made the T100, well, the T100. So it can't be a T100. Nevertheless, awesome work you two have done to save Freddies Bike! Can't wait to see it back in action.
