Join me in this video after taking on the challenge to fix @FreddieDobbs Triumph Bonneville T100SE. This motorcycle is the central focal point of his channel and has been right there with him on many adventures from all over Europe to the Sahara, across the Atlas Mountains to the local coffee shop!
In this video we get brakes all in place and bled and the find another issue purely of my own making for not checking the complete exhaust system, we also get the fuel pump removed, tank cleaned and a new fuel filter installed!
If you wish to join us for the DGR either sign up to the Tamworth ride or a ride from other midlands dealerships which are heading to the Triumph HQ Hinckley factory.

Over my 40 plus years of wrenching on bikes I have had dozens of impossible to bleed brakes- tried ALL the methods - that is until about 10 years ago I tried using (believe it or not) an ultrasonic toothbrush (with the brush removed!) resting against the hoses/pipes at various places - the amount of air coming back up to the reservoir never fails to amaze me sometimes.

This may help! Bleeding difficult brakes!! Get a syringe say 200cc suck out the fluid from the master cylinder ie empty it. Then fill the syringe with clean fluid connect to the calliper with a flex hose and open the bleed screw then push the fluid up thro' the master cylinder, this should take out the air. and (I shouldn't have to say this to you) watch the level in the master cylinder. Learnt this from fitting a front brake on a Lambretta scooter. You can push/suck the fluid up and down a few times to make sure the air comes out. Thanks for all your the videos - better than main stream TV!!

Instead of pumping the brake lever to eliminate the air, try sucking the fluid through from the calliper nipple using a suction device, typically a hypodermic syringe. I have to say, what a sterling job you have don one that bike, the care and attention paid is a credit to you, Well Done!

I worked at a Triumph dealership at the time these bikes were made. The T100 has chrome engine casings, the SE had polished casings and the standard Bonnie has black casings ( and no revcounter, that was an option) . I saw you say it was an SE on a previous video, and commented to my Mrs. that I didn't think it was. I didn't post though because I didn't want to look like a smartarse. Wish I had now though lol

The more technology “improves” performance, the more complicated and liable to breakdown the mechanics and ancillaries seem to become. I remember working on a Station in Outback Australia in the early 70’s, where the bikes we rode everyday could be basically maintained, fixed and (on occasion) “encouraged to limp home” cross country, just with the manufacturer’s tool kit kept under the seat. So simple to work on and maintain. Other than “very basic” maintenance, my current bikes HAVE to go back to the Dealer or specialist mechanic to be worked on. I don’t know how you have the patience and knowledge to rebuild Freddies Bonnie. My admiration for your skills and persistence. 😁🇦🇺👍

Early on in one of your vlogs I suggested that after you got his bike running he should trade it in for a Honda, at the time I never realised just how deep you would go into fixing his bike, it's turned out to be a full restoration rather than a quick fix. Yes he should now keep the bike as it will be as new but he definitely needs to look after it better. As a restorer of rare classic Japanese bikes I've enjoyed these vlogs very much and look forward to the climax.

Great work. I run both my cars and both bikes on nothing but E5 Super Unleaded. My cars (both 2004 models, MG TF 160 and MG ZS 180) have never failed an MOT on emissions. The important thing too is that E5 fuel has a 12 month shelf life, E10 starts going off after around a month. I even use E5 in the lawn mower because that has to sit idle for 3 months of the year.

Oh I did the fuel filter change myself last summer. Fiddling the pump assembly out and back in is a pain in the butt! My bike had 40.000 km on the odometer, there was no degradation on my seal, despite the previous owner filling it up with E10-Fuel... So you might be onto somethink with bad fuel quality on Freddies trips. Or my bike was serviced before, whereas Freddies has not...

Have you thought about the air bleed hole in the master cylinder being blocked with gunge? It’s worth a clean out. Also an old racer trick was to pull the brake lever towards the bar and hold it with a bungee elastic wrapped around it overnight. Then release the lever slowly, some air will come out into the master cylinder. Repeat and all the air will come out. Easy.

I remember you guys calling it the SE model and finding it strange, considering Freddie's doesn't have any of the hallmarks of the SE models (dual clocks, tank badge, polished aluminium side covers) but I assumed it went through some customizations that temoved all those (as they can all be also retro-fitted in non-SE models). But I never heard the exhaust pipes where also different, even so slightly.

Turn the handle bars to the left so the master cylinder is running slightly up hill then pull the brake lever a tad not a lot just enough for the piston to pass the feed holes and let fluid in then see how much air you get out that brake system you have there does self bleed the air out of the brake lines.

E10 is such a stupid notion. It does real harm especially to a little older gear, and it doesn't even improve things ecologically. Converting corn to ethanol (which could be food instead) and then transporting that crap all over the place does so much eco damage that at best it's a total wash vs using pure gasoline, and it might even work out net negative on any eco benefits for all I know. Nice to see the bike more or less ready to go though, and quite the overhaul it was too.
