I've been rocking under armor for a year now and I will never go back to normal riding gear. I don't want to look like an astronaut when I visit my friends. The under armor lets me wear whatever I want, it is perfect. During summer you can just throw over a pair of linen pants because lets be real: normal fabric doesnt protect you anyways. Great video, thanks for sharing! Love the classic look.

I like the look of the gear you have more than mine, but worry about lack of impact armour. Boots holding the ankle from breaking. Knee, shoulder elbow, hard armour etc. If ever we have the unthinkable accident, would you like to lie there and think "well I did all I could with protection the rest is fate" OR " If only I was wearing more protection I might have come off better." You only have one body for your whole life. Only thoughts, we worry because we like you. I say we, my wife follows you too. Keep up the enthusiasm. Keep up the videos, fantastic!

Just a note about Stylmartin quality from my personal experience. I have had my Rocket boots for 8 years now, used them everywhere with high and low temperatures, sun or rain. When I moved to Sweden they became my daily walking boots for the winter, until I got a job with motorcycles and started riding again. The boots are still here covering double duty, still being used for walking and riding. Considering that they cannot be resoled, I am pretty amazed. I had them repaired once because one stitching gave up on top of the boots.

Nice jackets. I have a 40 year-old Belstaff,which I still wear. I was going to sell it, but when I saw the cost of a new one, I decided to keep it! Now I know you're renowned for your "relaxed" attitude to machine maintenance but don't forget that you also have to "service" your waxed cotton jackets. It's important to clean and reproof them regularly, otherwise they can lose their waterproofing and dust can become trapped in the coating causing wear to the material and stitching (particularly important after your many sandy miles through Morocco, I think).

I’ve got a pair of those Ride & Sons boots and while they’re fine for what They are I don’t think I’d buy them again. Sole is quite possibly the most slippery ones I’ve ever experienced which can be quite scary in the rain at the lights. Also, the Velcro by the zip is already giving up and I’ve only used them for a few months. In regards to jackets, if you fancy the Belstaff I’d have a look at the Gold Top offering. For the same price you get great leather in AAA with good armour. Sadly I find the current reincarnation of Belstaff to be more fashion than substance.
@DirkGentley427 ай бұрын
Yes. Back in the day ('79) we bought a Belstaff partly because they were cheaper than a leather. Returning to biking after a gap, I was looking for another one but nothing prepared me for the new prices! Luckily I discovered Merlin for my main (armoured, heavy) bike jacket, and Speedwear for a robust trail master look alike (less than £100). Unfortunately Belstaff have priced themselves out of my scope. Barbours used to be posh, but they are half the price of the belstaff.
@DirkGentley427 ай бұрын
I've recently discovered Goldtop gloves. I'm so impressed with the leather and quality, one of their leathers will be on the shopping list when i need a new one. Also like you in not impressed with having to work out which Belstaff is a motorcycle jacket or a fashion jacket, they used to be nice heavy almost canvas material.
@903lew7 ай бұрын
@@DirkGentley42 I mean, old Belstaff went bust so I can’t really blame them for changing their business model. From what I can see they’re doing quite well really and that’s a good thing all things considered. But for protective gear I’m far too timid to ride in just A-rated (or indeed level 1) gear. With modern materials I don’t really understand why you’d by anything less than AA as they’re neither that heavy nor cumbersome these days. But like you said, there’s Merlin, there’s Gold Top, there’s about a million brands out there that work great for a more reasonable price.

The BMW at the start of the video was a first generation E21 3 Series. The "R" numberplate would date its registration to the period from August 1977 to July 1978. The 3 Series was introduced in 1975 as a replacement for the 02 Series, i.e., 1602 and 2002, their previous compact saloon. The two single headlights would indicate a smaller engined version such as the 316 or 318, as the 320 had four headlights. Also, this original 3 Series only came as a two-door saloon. Four-door and estate versions would only be introduced with its replacement, the second generation E30 3 Series in 1982. PS: You're correct about the 5 series; it has never been available as a two-door. The contemporary 5 Series to the car in this video, the first generation E12 (1972-1980), was available in the same sickly green colour but only came as a four-door saloon, ditto the second generation E28 (1981-1987). The closest thing to a two-door 5 Series was the original E24 6 Series coupe (1976-1989), which was built on the same platform.

I shopped on line 2 years ago and discovered that many motorcycle and work boots were identical. Put the word "motorcycle" in front of "boots" and the price doubles. My riding boots are heavy duty, over the ankle, real thick leather, thick non-stick sole, padded top and more. $65. from Sears. (yes, they're still in business on line.)

Freddie, Vale onslo, if it haden't been destroyed by arsonists would have blown your mind, the place was packed top to bottom with british bike parts and a massive area of old BSA bikes packed in tight together, i remember standing in parts department saterday mornings for hours waiting to get served, a bloke in a brown cow gown would ask what you wanted wright the part number down then disapear for ages, Pappa onslow as he was known built a trials bike called the onslow special and if i remember rightly he recived an MBE i think. My son started to film a documentry about him and his family buy sadly pappa onslow died before he could finnish it, a facinating man and family part of BRITISH motorcycle history that i'm afraid will be lost in time, sad to think what went up in flames when the shop was set on fire. It's worth a look into Freddie.

It's possible that Joe's father's motorcycle had a VIN number. If so, that would be one way to identify it. Also, it's possible that there is some database online, possibly run by the government, that lists who owns a vehicle with a particular VIN number.
