Speaking as someone who has made his living writing about guns for the past 30 years, and is fairly well-read on the literature, I can tell you, with absolutely no worries of being wrong, that no, as a matter of fact, ".45 bullets" were not developed so "cops could shoot black men high on cocaine." Depending on whether, when we say ".45 bullets," we mean the .45 Colt revolver cartridge (adopted in 1873) or the .45 ACP autopistol cartridge (adopted in 1911), both of these were cartridges developed for military service, not law enforcement. In fact, both the .45 Colt and .45 ACP lagged in becoming popular cartridges among law enforcement, and among the civilian populace, for years after their introduction because, in both cases, so much of the production of guns chambered for them was being funneled toward fulfilling military contracts.

This was actually disinformation about the .45 ACP cartridge. The round was developed due to a lack of stopping power experienced in the Moro Rebellion using the .38 Long Colt. This experience and the Thompson-LaGarde Tests of 1904 led the Army and the Cavalry to decide a minimum of .45 caliber was required in a new handgun. The Moro Rebellion was an armed conflict between the Moro people and the United States military during the Philippine-American War. The word "Moro" is a term for Muslim people who lived in the Southern Philippines, an area that includes Mindanao, Jolo and the neighboring Sulu Archipelago.

The .45 ACP was developed after the Filipino-American war when the soldiers found their rifles and sidearms weren't effective against who they were fighting, not because of a coked up dock worker accused of rape.
@theone0314 жыл бұрын
I do think the Philippine army was hoped up on drugs though. That's why the 38s didn't have much effect on them. Pretty sure I read that somewhere but I wouldn't swear to it?
@TheAfterPein4 жыл бұрын
@@theone031 I do believe there were reports of that, but I cannot recall if that was only for one faction in which the US were fighting or the opposition as a whole during the war. Either can be credible, but it would not surprise me if it were because of drug fueled soldiers, as that has been normal throughout history regarding wars.
@nickmc19753 жыл бұрын
It was some drugs and how the native men wrapped themselves tightly in clothing. This help slow hemorrhaging and allow them to continue fighting while being shot multiple times with .38 caliber revolvers. So the US army reverted back to the Colt SAA which shot a .45 long colt. They then figured out how to put that in a semi auto pistol and the .45ACP was born. This dude being interviewed is a lying pussy.

The .45 ACP round was developed due to a lack of stopping power experienced in the Moro Rebellion using the .38 Long Colt. This experience and the Thompson-LaGarde Tests of 1904 led the Army and the Cavalry to decide a minimum of .45 caliber was required in a new handgun.

Wrong, the .45's birth is a carry over from the Colt Dragoon and Army models. Then the 1873 45 Colt was to match that performance. The .45 ACP was to match that original performance because the .38 Long Colt proved to be very inadequate during the Philippine Insurrection. Whew!
