Quote from Guardian in reference to data from the Eurobarometer survey in 2014: “Countries where people are least likely to speak any foreign language are Hungary (65%), Italy (62%), the UK & Portugal (61% each), and Ireland (60%)”. Another survey by YouGov found that 75% of adults said they were unable to speak any of the top 10 languages considered “vital for our future prosperity and global standing” well enough to hold a conversation. He just said "i'm from the United States of America" but with a terrible accent that you can immediately detect that he's not a native Arabic speaker. To be fair though Arabic is an extremely difficult language to learn, not to mention learning it with a proper accent. Good on him for learning.
