Man. Freddie is a class act here. I like how he's supportive of the other musicians. I was fortunate to see him this very same year, 1987, in Ft. Worth, and we all got to party in the green room. Freddie loved his "Yack" as he called it (cognac). What a beautiful person he was!

Love his triplets and slurs - what artistry with his rapid fire notes. he will be remembered always by many of us. Too bad he was taken from us so soon.

What a nice atmosphere! It's always good to see greats play with local musicians; there's no competition; there's just a friendly conversation in a common language, whether it's in Budapest or wherever. And great audience, too. Thanks for posting this, jazz957. It's a gem.

Sometimes great musicians play with more ease and more beautifully in informal gathering such as this one than with all-star group at a big concert or festival. This is one of these times. Freddie plays beautifully and gives his best and the people love him for that.

I knew he could rip on bebop, post-bop, and free, but I didn't know he could get really expressive on ballads. He is a huge musical loss.

Anyone else notice Freddie at 1:44 plays low E with just third valve just because?
@lecookin80095 жыл бұрын
I think that a low E is more in tune with the third valve than 1-2 on the flugelhorn (sorry for my english!!)
@johndooley65993 жыл бұрын
@@lecookin8009 yeah, I bet that’s it. I just noticed he does it with the A too. Wow coming back to this video after after two years
@docsaxman15 жыл бұрын
This is not really a ballad, it's a slow swing groove, about the same tempo that Cannonball recorded it Miles on Somethin' Else. A master jazz artist, and most accomplished jazz musicians can play ballads, med tempos, up tempos, blues etc, that's all part of it. Glad you enjoyed Freddie, he was a true master and one of the most important jazz soloists of jazz history.
