Junior Cook is an excellent complement on tenor. A bit like Joe Henderson on the studio version of "Red Clay."

I love the studio version, but this live version just blows me away. The quality and intensity of the entire band is breathtaking. Special shout out to the saxophonist and drummer.

Great to hear a George Cables solo on this tune! Everybody plays their ass off.

Yeah. Cables samples "I'll Never Go Back to Georgia" briefly. Junior Cook sounds like who was strapped down and screaming for freedom!

The first time I heard this was on the Harry Abraham's show(The Best of All Possible Worlds) out of Rochester, New York back in the seventies. The best jazz show ever. I prefer this version to the studio version with George Benson (g) and Jack Dejohnette (d) among others. Everyone plays like there is no tomorrow on this version, especially the drummer.

I actually like both versions. The CTI recording is a lot more laid back. You can listen to it when you want to calm down from a long day or when you want to cuddle with someone special. This version is more intense and the musicians all play with lots of passion, intensity, and depth. Junior Cook almost sounds as if he wants to put down his tenor and let out a primal scream.

Is this available on vinyl? I've searched and I'm still not sure what the format is.
