This entire band is KILLIN (Joe Chambers!)! Regardless of his physical condition, Freddie plays a LOT of music in these solos.

Freddie’s doing much better here than he was by the time I saw him in 2007 and 2008. I wish he took better care of himself and that he didn’t destroy his lip in the early 90’s, but I’m grateful that he had the fortitude to still step out there after the fact and give new and old fans the opportunity to catch him live.

Trumpet is an extremely difficult instrument to play....plus Mr. Hubbard lip had serious injury issue.

Freddie suffered a bad lip injury and subsequent infection which destroyed his lip tissue. Different accounts exist on how it happened. Freddie said it was from decades of playing too hard, others say it was that plus an unfortunate episode involving a crack pipe.
