+mykylc yes, only a few that either actively follow boxing or just happened to of gotten into watching boxing would have had some idea that she was a boxer and a kick boxer by watching her fights. Having 11 years of boxing that's given her over 30 something wins and has given her the experience and knowledge that's made her a great boxer. As well as kickboxing for a short time and debuting in MMA in 2011 ( I think that's the correct year). Holly has definitely earned her way into MMA. She did impress me when she picked up Ronda and slammed her, has kept a stand up fight and not a ground fight, and avoided Ronda's clench, wrist grabs/locks and attempted hip toss.

It's great to see boxing guys have a realistic assessment of MMA, not saying the ridiculous shit like Tyson Fury who says that MMA guys simply are people who can't box and that he could beat Cain Velasquez in the sport. There shouldn't be a boxing vs MMA feud, it's understandable that boxing feels threatened by it because boxing has been the dominant combat sport for more than a century, but in the same way MMA has elevated jiu jitsu, wrestling, judo, kickboxing and karate to a more mainstream audience I think it does so for boxing because they are all elements of the game.

But he was right, Ronda would have to learn to box to be a more well rounded fighter. That said, she doesn't have time on her side to learn enough about boxing to compete with Holly. It's just the same with any art. I could spend every day for the rest of my life playing the violin (I'm 46 years old), but that doesn't mean you'll hear me playing at Carnegie Hall. To reach that caliber, I would've had to have started 40 years ago, and be a prodigy. So even time spent is no guarantee that you'll reach the pinnacle of any endeavor. But, what else are we going to do with our lives? Might as well try to be the best at something. But I digress... Holly beats Ronda 10 out of 10 matches. She's just the perfect storm to offset Ronda, and frankly, probably every fighter in that weight class. They're all taking notice & stepping up their boxing, but learning how to box is not the same as being a boxing champion. If it was that easy, a third of the population or more would be champions. +FRE FLO DO MMA opened the door for a lot of people that normally would be sitting on the couch watching boxing an outlet to get in a ring and fight. Why does holly throw slappy punches like an MMA fighter if she's a champion boxer? Why does she stick her arms out in front and not cover herself when throwing a punch? MMA is obviously different than boxing so obviously the footwork is going to be different. When the two fought I couldn't tell the difference between Ronda and Holly...both threw the same arm punches (except Holly had a cross, she used that 3 or 4 times.), both slapping with everything that wasn't straight.

Watch as he says they picked good opponents and so forth for Ronda as he begins to cover his mouth. What he rly thought was the competition sucked. Any pro fighter that gets arm barred in under one minute, knowing that that's what they have to defend going into the fight sucks. If you're a pro fighter and lose in under a minute it needs to be lights out knockout. But if you're tapping for the ref to stop the fight in under a minute u have not trained enough to call yourself a pro fighter yet. This was the case with quite a few of Rondas opponents.

What the Rousey loss does is once again remind us of the skill level required in professional boxing. Few in MMA can box at that level, so when a skilled boxer meets an MMA fighter the MMA fighter's only chance is to get it to the mat quickly.

James toney vs randy couture fight is a perfect example. couture would probably never match toney's boxing skills and didn't have to, his ground game won the fight. Ronda Rousey has the ground skills to win any fight. but somewhere along the way Edmond Tarverdyan put it in her head that she was a boxer after having success on a group of women that were still developing the weight class. they weren't as good of fighters as Holm or Nunes. I have no doubt that Ronda could beat both Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes if she'd quit trying to stand up with them. but now she's eating punches and getting rocked and can't seem to remember how to do a takedown. the takedowns against nunes and Holm were shoulder high. you've got to be able to perform single and double leg takedowns, and the last two fights show that she's not fighting smart. and a lot of that is her coach's fault. I think her mom was right on about him.

The only thing Rousey could do now is end the trilogy with Miesha Tate, since both can't strike. Well at least Tate had the balls to get back in there and then retire passing on the torch to the new gen. That wouldn't do much for her though... Rousey got beat by holm in a fluke, which destroyed her mentally, and made he try to be a boxer, when she should have just stuck to what she does, and could have easily beat Nunes. But that idiot edmond tried to give her shitty boxing skills and convinced her to play the striking game. Now she's screwed if she doesn't get back to her base and ditch the douchebag. And Roach has no idea what he is talking about with MMA. He didn't even know rousey is a judoka. What makes rousey great is that she has learned the language of judo from childhood, like knowing your native tongue, but now because of one loss she thought she had to learn a foreign language, which is extremely difficult for an adult to do fluently. She doesn't need to learn to box, she just needs basic defense so she can get the clinch, pull guard or whatever. Get eddie bravo as your coach like ferguson did. Bravo knows nothing about striking on the feet, but his strategy for getting your opponent to play your game is genius.

Aaron Busby freddie roach is great for someone like gsp, but not rhonda. gsp is not a specialist, he is just very well rounded and good boxing helps that style a lot. rhonda had huge success being a specialist because she was extremely good at it, even with great strikers. but edmond made her play the striking game after holm, and got her mind off the ball. of course every problem looks like a nail when you have a hammer like roach, but you always go back to what you know and what has served you best. rhonda is not very intelligent like gsp, but again she knows her language better than anyone and has to make them play her game. but i doubt she will fight again.

wiremessiah you are right she is a specialist of high technique in her original sport and she doesn’t have the fight iq or adaptability of gsp but I see gsp as what Ronda could have been if she had the right coaching because he originally started out as a karate specialist and yet he evolved by learning wrestling and bjj, Ronda tried to do this as well except with Edmond, and with him being a terrible coach Ronda didn’t get the boxing capabilities or roundness of mma because instead of adapting she stayed stationary while the division improved. This is why few specialists are in the ufc because eventually they are beaten by being out of their zone for example Damian Maia is a great bjj specialist but he lost to Tyrone because he couldn’t input his specialty

Aaron Busby well no one can beat tyron because hes over 200 pounds fighting at 170. rhonda never was or could be a boxer or striker. she should have kept up and evolved her no gi judo and grappling game. use 10th planet techniques to pull guard and get imanari rolls and such. leglocks are still virgin ground for womens mma. i just think trying to change your game completely from one base to another is a huge mistake.

wiremessiah I agree 100 percent she’d never be a striker or a boxer and she does need to improve her bjj to add a higher complexity to her credentials and that adds to what I was saying she needs to evolve with what she is good at as well as what she is bad at,for example mcgregor isn’t a grappler and he never will be at the level of Ronda in the clinch or on the ground but with each event he evolved his striking clinch and ground, it is evident from the change in takedown defence from the chad menses fight to the Dias rematch, my point is although he will never be top level he never stays still in progress in his boxing or in his grappling and that’s what Ronda needed to do constantly improve instead of plateauing

thats like saying muay thai is just better than boxing, which is not always the case. you could put a boxer vs a muay thai fighter, both only training in their disciplines and the muay thai fighter might win in that case, but holly holm is not just a boxer, she started as a kickboxer and she knows how to avoid, check, catch, or whatever you can do with leg kicks... thats why i said that in mma one style does not trump the other style. ronda might learn a bit of muay thai, but holly can still use the big ass octagon and keep her distance, and i doubt she can even kick better than holly holm, she got good form in her kicks, more reach and shit, so a "little muay thai" wont do the trick, i am sure.

hrivera007 Oh no, she beats her more than just footwork and boxing. Her boxing and footwork are great and it's one of the main reason she won, that's no doubt. But she knows how to grapple, wrestling and kicks, something they don't teach in boxing. Just watch the fight again, she was able to escaped Ronda best skills, grappling/Judo, *Twice*. Not only that, she threw her down! That took a lot of skills and practices.
