Thank you so much for the reaction! Brings back my childhood memories! Freddy Fender was American of Mexican descendance. His birth and resting place is in South Texas. Spanish was his second language. Here is some searchable information about him: "Freddy Fender was an American Tejano, country and rock and roll musician, known for his work as a solo artist and in the groups Los Super Seven and the Texas Tornados. He was best known for his 1975 hits "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" and the subsequent remake of his own "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights". Born: June 4, 1937, San Benito, TX Died: October 14, 2006, Corpus Christi, TX"

Freddy was an Hispanic American who grew up in Louisiana and in the 90s had a Tex Mex band called the Texas Tornados. He passed in 2006 I believe. His two biggest hits was this one and Wasted Days and Wasted Nights. My parents had his Greatest Hits on 8 track tape and I remember seeing him on TV as a kid in the 70s. I miss the music of that time but I don't miss the 8 Tracks melting in the car.

The accent that you hear is a regional one from the South most tip of Texas where we are from where Spanish, English and a mixture called Tex-Mex is still spoken by 2.5 million Americans. Also Freddy Fender had two #1 records in Mexico independently from his International fame in places as far as Australia. Known as the "Father of Chicano Rock n Roll", the "Mexican Elvis") and "The Bebop Kid".

I flunked Spanish along with Miguel and the Argentinian Foreign exchange student , Rudolfo . I've worked with so many different people I understand most of what I hear but can't speak chingus . ..shit ! Then again something special happens , with music . It just doesn't matter what the translation is . You don't want to ruin what you love already . My personal favorite is a cover of a 200 year old Creole song covered by Maria McKee . "Ma Blonde est partie " Don't care about ever finding the translation . It's absolutely beautiful as is .

He got his hit in 1959. Shortly after it started getting big, he was arrested for marijuana and was sentenced to 5 years which put off his singing career. He was huge in country music all thru the 70s. That was country singer.Don Williams with him. He didn't sound country because he was Mexican. Freddy was called the King of Tex Mex.
