I told my ex-wife about this song and used to sing it. She had never heard Freddie sing it and she used to laugh at me singing it. Then one day she was driving down the road and it came on the radio. When Freddie started signing in Spanish, she had to pull the car to the side of the road. She was overwhelmed. She said she didn't understand a word of it, but the singing was so beautiful that she started crying so hard she could not see how to drive. Every since, she has been a Freddie Fender fan. Music truly is the universal language.

I first heard this wonderful song being played in a jukebox in a bar owned by an American GI frequented by US service members in the 70s. If my memory serves me right, I think it was also the period when the Vietnam War was still in everybody's mind. I heard this not in the States! It was in my hometown of Angeles City in the Philippines, which was home to the then largest US Air Force Base outside of Continental USA- Clark Air Base. Thank you Mr. Fender. Your song also challenged my little knowledge of Spanish.

I dearly love this song along with his song "Waste to Days and Waste to Nights"! What makes this song so interesting is it having both English and Spanish which makes them want to learn how to sing it especially someone who doesn't normally speak Spanish! I know how to pronounce the words because I have heard him sing this since he came out with it I just don't know what they mean. Freddy Fender you was a true blessing 🙏 to country music 🎶 but now you have joined All those other great artist in "Hillbilly Heaven 🙏"! We all love and miss you so much! May God bless 🙏 your family 🥰

Heck of a nice guy the crowd loved him, and we had one hell of a party that night in the Hotel where we were all staying. He didn't bring any dots with him, we just busked the whole show, quite an experience. A real nice gentleman and I'm sure he is sadly missed. RIP Freddy.
