I’m so happy you talked about confidence and I can really relate. I’m 13 and we were having a class party. I wore a pink tweed skirt from Zara with a frill and lace at the bottom, a cute white blouse and a pink jacket to match. Literally everyone was laughing at me whilst they were wearing a hoody and some leggings to a class party. They said it looked like I was wearing a ‘rug’. But all I did was roll my eyes and I seriously couldn’t care less. I knew what I was wearing was fashionable and that their opinion didn’t affect me in the slightest. I knew that I wouldn’t be seen dead in their mismatched leisure wear outfit. I just thought about it and my fashion icons (you and Grace foley) would probably wear it so I thought I must have been doing something right. Xxx

I had a similar Gossip Girl induced style epiphany through my youth, but mine was Chuck Bass. I remember as I grew up being drawn to things like bright colours and sharp suits and thinking things like "imagine if people really dressed like this in real life??" And I can't even put my finger on the exact moment it happened but one day I decided what if I did? This was actually helped by my old job where I was a tutor in a high school so I got to experiment with ties, bow ties, suspenders, cufflinks , jackets and waistcoats etc I got better at matching and contrasting colours in a way that I'd always describe as "a low budget episode of Gossip Girl, that takes place in a music video for the killers in a colour scheme designed by Disney or Studio Ghibli" or in simple terms if post character growth heart of gold Chuck Bass were secretly a rockstar who is also a cartoon wizard. Which sounds completely insane but people look and they get it. The first time I went walking around with bow ties on I did feel self conscious but just had to own it because if I wanted it when I was on my own I should be able to show it to other people too.That confidence has really blossomed and become such a genuinely useful tool in practical scenarios like say job interviews- and in silly scenarios like the one time I had a shower at the gym and forgot to bring a towel and I just decided if confidence taught me anything it's that I can walk out of here act like I know exactly what I'm doing and I meant to do this and no one will question it. Believe it or not that actually worked! And when you do find a style that is uniquely yours and people realise it it's such a weird nice feeling to get compliments literally every single day from colleagues telling me I look dapper or smart or saying only I could pull this off or the very best saying I inspired them.

Just a head's up for you Freddy and anyone else who might not be aware of this - even if your clothes are completely threadbare charity shops can still use them (most chari shops have a 'rag bag' or something similar) so even if an item of clothing is completely falling apart don't feel that u have to throw it away!
@sophiegoddard68186 жыл бұрын
The charity shop I used to work in would get a lot of clothes that weren't good enough quality to sell and we'd give them to a tip to recycle.
@whataboutredlorry6 жыл бұрын
NOT TRUE!! Don't spread this wrong information!! Second hand stores don't like to receive poor quality clothes - stains, or falling apart -- they THROW them out or try and ship their garbage elsewhere. If they can't sell it - it becomes a BURDEN on them. Western nations send 'waste clothes' to poorer countries - and it becomes a burden on them and destroys local and small businesses that exist in those countries. I've had plenty of friends who have worked at Secondhand Stores -- and they say DO NOT BRING IN RUINED CLOTHES. No bad stains, no clothes that are falling apart -- because they have to sort through everything, and then throw the bad things out - and it just wastes their time, and some of them are voulnteers!!

Some other points to note are - dress in ways that flatter/enhance your body type. Certain things may not look good on you due to your torso length, or leg length, or your... width. And that's fine. Not everything is for everyone. You don't need to jump on every trend. Know when to say NO to a trend. Fit of the clothes - get clothes that actually fit you right - not too small, not too big. The number/letter in the tag is not important - the FIT is. So, if you go to one show and you're a 4 and then the next shop and the 4 is too tight - get the right fit, not the 4 because it's the "right number". And TAILORING. If you can't get your clothes to fit you - invest in some key pieces to have tailored to fit you perfectly length wise and for your shape. When you wear a classic piece, it doesn't have to be really expensive... but if it's tailored and fits you well - you instantly look better and the piece usually looks more premium.

Sometimes all I do is wear a dress (literally one thats so easy to slip on) and people are like “omg you’re so dressed up thats too much” like it’s literally a sundress I’m pretty sure I took less time putting it on than your tshirt and jeans 😭
@jessicaallgood33914 жыл бұрын
YES! For me it was more fixing my hair nice in intricate buns and so forth. My "friends" would put me down like, "Your just going to my house why'd you fix your hair so fancy?" or, "Why are you so dressed up?" It made me feel so over the top and basicly beneath them. But it was probably because almost all they'd wear was jeans and baggy t-shirts and sweatshirts. They probably felt underdressed and beneath ME! I think critisizing others style is a sign you are unconfident of your own. Remember that when your being critisized.

I noticed most of my style icons stem from the 90s! Cher Horowitz, Fran Fine, 90210, etc and even 90s anime. I’m also inspired by the plaid outfits from Heathers. So I think I just really like 2 matching sets. I’ll also take insp from the 60s and 70s since that’s what Mona May took inspiration from. And Scream Queens since occasionally I’d see an outfit that gave me Clueless vibes.

Love this Freddy!! Completely agree with everything you said; also to anyone who is feeling self conscious about dressing how they want to, one of things that I found so hard at first was my friends and family not accepting my new style and them almost feeling embarrassed to walk with me, but trust me that fades away once they realise that the princessy dresses and pink coats aren’t a faze and they’ll accept you for you 💕 xx

I'm surprised you didn't mention a Clueless closet app like StyleBook. I love my digital version of my closet and using the shuffle option to get new outfit ideas. I agree about Pinterest and have a special board just for styling ideas. I may hate an outfit's color pallet but love how they styled it. Don't forget when trying a new style, consider shopping at a used clothing shop to get some cheap options to test out. That helps avoid purchasing a pricey "staple" and discovering that while it looks great, you hate wearing it. I like the look of midi-skirts for work but discovered that I hate wearing them. Lucky for me, I had only bought a cheap neutral basic to try out before making an investment buy.

My fashion sense is comfort over anything else so I’m more of a casual/tomboyish kinda of girl when it comes to clothes/fashion I’d take tees, jeans, and a nice pair of sneakers over a dress anyday) but I still prefer feminine soft colors like pink, white, neutrals, pastels and idc about trends, I where what I want when I want, it’s all about what I’m feeling at the moment, now don’t get me wrong if I like a trend then I may jump on the bandwagon of it but for the most part I just where what I want, whether out of style or in style

Sticking to one style is so difficult !! So, having a cohesive look, as weel. Like, I love dress / heels glamorous style, but I also love trendy style with jeans and sneakers.... and I also love feminine things like flower prints and lace. For me the real issue is to find ONE style and ONE inspiration to refer to. My tastes also evolve quite fast (==> so: lot of things that I don't wanna wear anymore in my closet...), and it's not even about following trends. It's about me and my tastes. So: you're very lucky to have found the ONE style you love. I love too many things :p

I feel like my style is very Bardot, if that makes any sense. I wear a lot of off the shoulder tops paired with skirts and belts that really show off my tiny waist. I love anything that is girly but pink doesn't really suit me so I wear loads of pastel blue and white as it brings out the colour in my eyes but also contrasts with my porcelain skin and my blonde hair. I feel like even though I do have a defined style that everyone knows me by, it's a whole fusion of all the things I love and it varies from season to season. In winter my style is completely different. I wear mainly jeans, thigh high boots, high neck sweaters, ponchos and burets, but in summer it's all skirts, belts and frilly and pretty off the shoulder tops. Does anyone else have a similar style?

I must say since looking at your videos I am inspired to buy more pink items. I search a lot on asos and zalando for blush pink dress haha! When I was like 14-15 I loved vintage dresses and ruffled blouses with high waisted skirts. I was obsessed with the abercrombie sort of style. Now my style is more diverse. I love wearing faux fur but also like a leather aviator jacket. I like vintage levis but also a classic jumper. Sometimes I feel like going for a boho free people style, sometimes scandi chic. But I always stick to the same sort of colours.

ALWAYS WEAR WGAT YOU WANT!! You probably have more flair in style than you believe because you always carbon copy someone else's style. When I was little I wore a fur coat that I loved, but when I got older I thought people would think it not that great and kinda weird for not going more traditional. But my parents got me a cream coat for Christmas this year that I liked. I was kinda nervous wearing it for the first time because I didn't know what people would think. EVERYONE RAVED OVER IT. I was constantly getting compliments like: "It's so cute" "It's so soft!" "I love your coat!" WEAR WHAT YOU LIKE!!!

I have gotten rid of a lot of old clothes and now when I look at my wardrobe I feel motivated and inspired because I am passionate about every item of clothing I own. The other thing that is helpful about getting rid of clothes I no longer wear is that my wardrobe is not cluttered or overloaded, so I can actually see every item of clothing, which makes it easy for me to curate outfits in my head without even trying everything on.

YES love it! These are my fave types of videos. I know you have to do hauls but I enjoy these styling/tips videos so much more, plus it keeps my bank account slightly more healthy! (I do enjoy your hauls too of course)
