Love the inclusion of Bi, Ace and Pan. The community has pretty much labeled those as "outcast sexualities" and pan is just non-existent to everyone now. It feel nice to be included in something's. Maybe next next video you can touch on more of the gender questions that involve non-binary individuals and people who don't follow the gender norms.
@andynonymous67693 жыл бұрын
TW panphobia, somewhat transphobia Ok unpopular opinion time: honestly, I don't mind if pan becomes obsolete or just synonymous with bi. Pan and bi people can experience attraction the exact same way to the exact same people and pan has kinda transphobic roots. Also biphobic roots. I guess I just don't get what the point of separating bi and pan is anymore. Like, the distinction used to be that bi people were attracted to males and females, while pan people were attracted to males, females, and trans people (yikes) Then it was that bi people were only attracted to the gender binary while pan was non binary inclusive Then it was that bi people were attracted to only 2 genders and pan was attracted to all Now it's bi people are attracted to 2 or more genders while pan people are attracted to people despite gender. Meanwhile throughout all this, bi means and has always meant attraction to multiple genders, full stop. It basically meant pan, but we kept redefining both labels to make them separate things when they're not really. I guess being genderblind is a valid distinction, but again bi people can be genderblind and pansexuality implies they can't, so we're still redefining bisexuality to try and separate them. Why?
@qwertyuiopqwertyuiop-bb4mi3 жыл бұрын
@@andynonymous6769 Agreed. Pan has always seemed like a redundant label to me tbh
@themudkip52952 жыл бұрын
@@andynonymous6769 i disagree with the pan being transphobic. ive always been under the impression that pan people didn't care about what genetalia (i know i spelled that wrong but my autocorrect isnt helping me out so...idk just deal with it ig) you had and how it linked to your identity. like you could be a trans man and not have bottom surgery, and they wouldn't mind, while bi people specifically wanted someone who was male/female AND identified as such. (as in if you were trans, you would have to have the parts). obviously, thats not what its like now, but im just saying thats what it *used* to be. idk i could be wrong about some things but saying pan is transphobic isnt cool dude. and that isnt even getting into nonbinary people. i do agree with the statement that bi and pan are basically the same now, but your comment just comes off panphobic. i just say we let people use what label they want. sincerely, a pan individual.
@andynonymous67692 жыл бұрын
@@themudkip5295 I'm aware my comment comes off as panphobic. Did you not read the trigger warnings? "Do not assume that bisexuality is binary or duogamous in nature. In fact, don't assume that there are only two genders." -the bisexuality manifesto, *from the 90's* Some bisexuals prefer dating people who's genitals match up with their gender expression but none of us ever wanted our sexuality to be defined by that. That distinction was made without our consent when pansexuality was on the rise and was obsessed with defining themselves as a different sexuality than bisexuality. The difference being "hearts not parts," implying that all bisexuals only care about the parts, which is obviously untrue- always has been. So you had the option of either jumping ship and identifying as pan, furthering the stereotype, or remaining identified as bisexual and being treated like you only cared about peoples bodies and not their personality. You can see how this is biphobic? Also I didn't say that pansexuals are transphobic, but the label absolutely does have transphobic roots. before the 2010's (ish), trans people hardly had a voice, and most people didn't even know non binary people existed. When trans people started gaining rights and the conversation about them picked up, people treated them as sort of a third gender. And the word *bi*sexuality was misinterpreted as only interested in the gender binary. So pansexual flag was created and people started defining it as "attracted to male female and trans people." Which is obviously transphobic. Same shit when nonbinary people gained visibility: bisexuality was defined as "attracted to the gender binary, trans inclusive" while pansexuality was defined as "attracted to everyone including nonbinary, unlike bisexual people" "We are tired of being analyzed, defined and represented by people other than ourselves" -Again the Bisexual manifesto. Still true today.
@Bitter_Sweet_Salty2 жыл бұрын
@@andynonymous6769 your comment does not just "come off" as panphobic, it quite literally is. Pansexual is under the bi umbrella, pansexuals knowing this. While they are similar (you thinking that it's the same) whichever label works best FOR YOU is what label works best. You can't tell pansexuals to not use the label simply because bisexual is practically the same thing. Pansexual is the label that works best for them, and that's completely okay. Writing paragraphs about why the label is bad simply because people interpreted it as something ["attracted to everyone including nonbinary, unlike bisexual people"] that those today don't see it as is ridiculous. Pan and Bi are both valid. Why start wars with each other?

As an ace, I do wanna say to people who don’t entirely understand my identity. Some people are ace just because they are, like how some people are just gay because they’re gay. Me, and some other people, however, realized and “became” ace after going through a lot of trauma. This CAN happen. Yes, people can “become” ace/aro. No, you cannot “become” homosexual or anything, but you can become ace or aro. It really just depends on the person. Also, ace (Asexual) means having no interest in sexual relationships, and aro (Aromantic) means having no interest in romantic relationships. Some people are BOTH, others are just one (like me, I’m only ace but I wouldn’t mind a nice romantic relationship) Oh and btw, to everyone else in the LGBTQIA+ community: STOP MAKING PEOPLE FEEL GUILTY FOR NOT UNDERSTANDING YOUR IDENTITY. Lots of people just don’t know, so please try and be respectful towards them, whilst making sure they know not to say anything offensive the next time they want to ask something. Thanks for coming to my TED talk lmfao ✨
@AleksNeve3 жыл бұрын
It's not true that ace means having no interest in sexual relationships. Ace means only that ace person doesn't feel sexual attraction to others but still may have sexual drive and like having sex. Some aces don't have sex drive, others do. Also it's not true that you can't became gay or lesbian or even hetero. Sexuality is fluid throughout life, it may change, but truth is that you can't change it by CONSCIOUS choice.
@worstusernameintheworld98713 жыл бұрын
as an acearo spec, I wanna clear things out a bit: there are aces and aros that *do* want relationships/sex. There is a microlabel (people don't need to use it if they don't want to, called a cupiosexual/romantic or aegosexual/romantic who wants a relationship/sex but lacks the attraction to do so) and I'm personally one of those types of aces, and there are definitely a wide variety of aces/aros that are sex positive, sex indifferent, or sex repulsed. The sexuality is based on a lack of attraction rather than a dislike for sex or a lack of libido. That is because there are celibate allosexuals, allosexuals who have gone through tr*uma themselves, or allosexuals that don't do relationships/sex for various reasons (ie. religion). As for people who become ace/aro from tr*uma, they do happen, but still shouldn't be the reason why aces/aros should be dismissed, it's a horrible stereotype, honestly because it doesn't make anyone any less ace/aro if they have bad experiences or not. Also, tr*uma cam happen to any sexuality, not just aces and aros. And just like the comment above me, sexuality IS definitely fluid, and there are people who use different labels while they try to discover themselves more and there's nothing wrong with it as long as they're being informed properly.

hey frederic, I've been bi-curious in my past, dated guys and two girls who've hurt me, and now I've been in a straight relationship for over a year. I think I identify as straight because I just don't feel that way about women anymore, and I feel like this kind of stuff isn't talked about often. People think if you come out once, that's it and you're not allowed to change your mind. I at first came out as bisexual a few years ago because I thought it would make me feel better and make me feel like a belong to that label. I was really depressed and I thought taking that label would help me find myself. But later on I realized that it was more of a curiousity not something I truly felt. The bi-community in general was really toxic which didn't help me either. But after all that was single for a little bit, and I just told myself to be open to whoever wanted a relationship with me after that. Now I'm with an amazing guy who actually loves me, and I'd consider myself straight. It'd be cool of you could make a video about these topics/problems within the Bi-community, and the fact that people are allowed to change their mind on their sexuality/gender etc. Thanks!

I get called gay/lesbian at school but I don’t know what my sexuality is and I live in Australia and they (the boys at my school) make it sound like a bad thing and I don’t know if I just find women pretty in a straight way or if it’s more I know I’m attracted to men but I don’t know if it’s more and how I’ll know if I’m bisexual or not
@sunayasaha28744 жыл бұрын
Awww, figuring out your sexuality can be really hard, I struggled a lot too, I too questioned whether I was attracted to girls in just a friend way or a non platonic way, it took me around 4 years. Whatever your sexual orientation is, know that you are loved, valid, and that there's nothing wrong with you!! Also, you don't have to figure it out right now!
@jaguar_83444 жыл бұрын
Bethany Frizzell lol, I thought I was just jealous of muscular guys when I was young, turns out I just wanted to hit that 🤭. Try and figure out if you admire women, and appreciate their bodies, or if you would like to be close to them, and are attracted to them. Does the idea of kissing a girl gross you out? Why? Why not? And remember, you don’t need to label yourself. Love who you wanna love, maybe you’re bi, or pan, or fluid. Doesn’t really matter

lol sexuality is hard... thought i was bisexual for 4 years until i was like “shit i’m a lesbian” and then it turned into “oh shit i’m a straight trans man” so honestly don’t rush labels cuz it’s a whole process
@andynonymous67693 жыл бұрын
Perhaps you're ace? Or you think of both binary genders romantically but only the opposite one sexually? I had the same experience- I didn't really feel straight since puberty but I didn't know what I was. I'm 20 now and it's still kind if a tough topic but I'm pretty sure I'm just biromantic/ace and thats why it was so hard to figuee it out. I hate when people always say that they knew for as long as they could remember and act like you're just y'know, spicy straight or something if you're questioning Just date the people you like and if your heart says yes or no, listen to it. Also know that things are real fucking confusing for baby bi's- for me it felt like my label changed every week. It's because when you're attracted to everyone, sometimes you want to get with a guy, sometimes a girl, sometimes neither and sometimes nobody. Without a label I was always freaking out, thinking that I was lesbian, straight, ace and so on just depending on that. Thus is the life of someone riding the bi-cycle U_U

Me and my best friend came out to each other at graduation. It basically went like: Her: “I think I’m pansexual.” Me: “WAIT FR ME TOO”
@modestoctopus143 жыл бұрын
That was the same with me and my friend we get put back in school and she just casually said "by the way I'm pan and non-binary" I said "oh, I'm pan too" and the rest was history 😂

Honestly, I feel uncomfortable with the f-slur, I didn't even type it because I have seen so many straight people use it against even just the lgbtqia+ community. I was talking about why people get the pink inverted triangles on their arm as a memorial and tried to make the point that it is also a way of taking back that symbol as something triumphant and that we can take it back and make it our own and my cousin literally asked why the community doesn't make the f-slur as out own symbol but he actually said it, my straight cousin to his gay cousin. Although it was an educational conversation it still made me uncomfortable because he said it, I would have taken it better if he said f-slur itself or something like that because it somehow made me feel unsafe to be me at the same time? I don't know, my mom said it's because he grew up in a different time but I feel like that isn't an excuse?

On the topic of queer people being over-sexualized to the point that we see people claiming that being openly queer grooms kids, or that we're making kids grow up too fast by giving them a concept of sexuality: I stopped using the term "sexual orientation" ages ago because I found that these conversations (debates) would take a drastic change in tone when I used the term "romantic orientation" instead. It's not that I personally think sexuality is a bad thing, it just seemed to help change their mindset when I drew attention away from sexual acts to the fact that romantic relationships - queer or straight - are about companionship and compatibility of complete human beings, not just their genitals. I found it helped with my own paradigm shift as well as I was figuring out that: yes, I may be biromantic but I am also on the asexual spectrum. I realized that explaining the nuance of my identity forced me to share more personal things that seemed fair, all in order to justify my existence to people who didn't really have a right to that insight about me. Then when I started to believe that sexual practice preferences should be freely private and nobody's business except for one's sexual partners, it made the concept of romantic preferences being subject to public opinion that much more bizarre. It's just love. What's not to love?

12:42 Imo when someone reacts very like "uh okay I guess." or not really caring much when I decide to come out to them, I get kinda upset. Like, ig it's nice to know that they don't mind me being gay, but something about it kinda sucks cause I worked up the courage to tell them, just for them to not seem like they care. Just a simple "I'm proud of you" or "yoo!!" and I'd be more than happy.

Personal opinion on the f slur: if you are queer and the slur has been used against you you are allowed to reclaim it
@Naae_1113 жыл бұрын
I kinda see your point but i don't think we should yse it even though we can ! Because other people (straights) might take it as a regular word and will think they can use it too... Also some LGBT+ people might hear it without knowing you're gay and be offended... Maybe I'm taking it too far idk, but yeah it's not directly a problem to use it but it's not a mandatory or indispensable word either so... Just my opinion though ( I think the same about the n word, the t slur, the r word and every slur like these btw )
@robyn51203 жыл бұрын
@@Naae_111 I totally see your point, I feel in those situations where straight people think they can use it too, one should just politely correct them, and if they get upset or fail to see the issue then hey you just identified and asshole LOL. When I use the f slur I ask if those around me are comfortable with it and I definitely don’t go screaming it though the streets or something for these exact reasons. Thank you for starting a conversation with me about it!!

in response to the person asking how do you know you aren’t straight. i am bi and i realized that i like looking at woman just as much as i like looking at men. it’s as simple as that. though interestingly irl i look at men more than i look at woman but i think that is just because my taste in women is a lot more specific than my taste in men so there are more men that fall into what i consider to be attractive than there are women.
