Thank you, Ranger Borders for your concise and well-delivered accounts of the movements of both armies and the intelligence that drove them during the critical campaigns of 1862-1864 around and in Frederick, Maryland. I was not familiar with the story of the Landon House in Urbana and will be sure to visit. In reading Mrs. Markell's diary of this time, it occured to me that these social events, hosted by the local families may well have been a way to learn thru loose lips aided by libations, what the movements and plans of the troops might have been!
