My 2nd great grandfather George Bauer (Bower) was mortally wounded at this battle while serving as a 1st Sargent in the 141st New York infantry in Ricketts brigade. His unit was in the middle of the battlefield. The after action report by the Chaplin stated he was missing and presumed dead after losing his leg in the battle. I’ve visited the battlefield twice now.

Great battlefield, awesome vists and beautiful year round. Grew up outside buckeystown and loved my time and life spent there til my early 20s learned alot about life and contemplated alot of my life and personal trauma in and around the battlefield and park mills areas and sugarloaf and all the other parks and battlefields in the area it helped heal my trauma to be able to walk their steps hear their story's and apply them to my life I've always loved history since I was born I'm told haha but anyways I can't believe I made it to 30 lol Frederick will always have a special spot in my heart along with Silver spring,Gaithersburg, Rockville and Germantown too ❤️ I think of those days alot when I got time to reminisce and chill anyway thanks for the rant. I love this video tour I highly suggest anyone visiting the area try to stay for 2 to 3 weeks maybe a month if you can cause DC and Baltimore are right there to the east and just to the west are harpers ferry and Antietam and north is Gettysburg up 15 great job guys well done and keep up the great work 👍

Wallace saved the Union maybe twice. On the second day at Shiloh Wallce's Division flanked the Confederate left three times The third time the Confederates left the field entirely. Grant held Wallace responsible for not getting on the battlefield on day one. Essentially, Baltimore was a demotion. After the war Grant agreed that he, Grant, may have been at fault. Grant's error may have been very lucky for the Union.

Jubal's army first assault failed, so they moved downriver and crossed the river. Reorganized, launched the second assault which was successful but costly. There were confederate sympathizers in this part of Maryland, so collecting ransom money may have been facilitated. Besides, Jubal met little resistance from Frederick locals. Thats my take from my visit to MBSP. Thanks to the Ranger. Also, did not know the slaves in Maryland were freed as a result of this confederate invasion into Frederick.
