The horrible stigma behind having HSV makes uneducated people look at you like you are "Gross" or a "Whore" Theres not enough education out there about Herpes. Please continue this important work. The stigma of herpes has ruined my mental health for the past ten years. Was diagnosed at 19. My entire twenties which are supposed to be spent dating and carefree have been filled with worry about this stupid virus that most people have but don’t get tested for. I can’t even find a therapist who is educated enough on herpes for therapy to even be worth it for me. They just don’t get that they probably have it too and they don’t see why refusing to be tested themselves for it out of fear is messed up. Not to mention the laws surrounding disclosure are totally confusing and unfair in terms of allowing people to say they don’t have it who have never been tested!! “Symptoms” often just look like a pimple so I don’t see how so many people can say they aren’t getting tested because they don’t have symptoms. Hey man, I've been where you are, and I have some unsolicited advice for you, feel free to take it or leave it. What has worked for me is to be ready with a plan for disclosure, and to try to time it for one date before you think things would normally start to get intimate (which was usually the second or third date in my personal experience). Let them know, matter of factly, near the start of the date, that just in case things get more serious, you are morally obligated to disclose to them that you have HSV, and then proceed to truthfully explain to them why it really isn't a big deal, that the majority of people have it and don't know it. Give them some resources they can look into on their own time that back up what you are saying with stats and science, the CDC is a good resource, and there's more down to earth stuff, like the Adam Ruins Everything episode is pretty good. If you're on an antiviral let them know that further reduces chances, and that risk of transmission is low when there is no outbreak. Then go on with the date, have a good time, and let them check what you've told them is true on their own. I can only tell you my personal experience with this method, but I've had to disclose to about a dozen women since I was diagnosed over a decade ago, most of them ended up looking at the information after I disclosed and realizing it wasn't a big deal, a few of them already knew this stuff or didn't care and were DTF the same day, one of them said "hey, me too! Herpes club!", asked for a high-five, and followed up with "so if we're both otherwise clean, this means we can skip the condoms!" I only had one single experience where the girl reacted badly and it was a deal-breaker for her, and in all fairness, It was a bad disclosure on my part because things escalated more quickly than I expected on the first date and I had to take my dick out of her mouth and say "hold on, there's something we should talk about before you keep doing that..." If you go in with a plan, it will quickly become routine, you'll be less nervous, and most partners will appreciate your candor, because it's a strong signal that you are trustworthy and care about their informed consent. The few that do have a problem with it are probably not worth your time anyway. You can almost think of it as a test to weed out immature idiots. When I first got diagnosed, I wanted to kill myself, I figured my love life was over. In reality, I've had more intimate relationships in the 10 years after I was diagnosed than the 10 years before (I was diagnosed when I was 31). Hope some of this is helpful.

Congratulations on being this close to your goal . I was a little unsure why you said it is not life threatening tho. My father who was 83 died 3 years ago from the herpes virus that went to his brain . We didnt know at the time of his death what had caused him to go from perfectly healthy one day to the next day in hospital incoherent . He died with in i think it was about 5 days with terrible brain damage that could never be healed with medicine . We were told after his death that the test results had shown it was the herpes virus on the brain so please dont think this cure wont be saving lives . Yeah the timeline is basically forever still for now. Until the gov gets serious and drops actual money on the problem it won't get done all that well. He's just doing some sort of little do dad thing, not an actual cure just yet. Like he said, at least the gov put on their list of things to do later on "a cure".
