Hi Fred! Thank you for your videos! Excellent work! One of the most important lessons I had to learn as a beginner about 35 years ago was to NEVER try to transmit without a proper antenna. I broke the finals of my first CB within seconds. To my excuse, I was 10 years old at the time and had no clue of radio technology. But I did not give up and continued the hobby up to the present day. Cheers mate from Division 13!

Hello Fred it took me more than i anticipated to get myself a CB radio financial reasons, i just had delivered a Thunderpole T-X with a car kit also i will probably get another radio for my base but only after my summer holidays, i was re watching you videos and just realised that i didn't order an SWR to set up my car antena hopefully we will hear each other on the air i live around Potters Bar i will let you know after i set up the car antena because the radio doesn't reach to far on stock antena. Keep doing this video they are very informative.

Bought myself a Cobra 29 LTD Classic AM/FM CB last year, currently saving up for a Stationmaster antenna (Australian made 11m antenna). Also picked up a 13.8v power supply from Jaycar, seems to be taking for ever to save money due to the cost of living!

Thanks Fred. I would like to buy a PSU the ac to dc converting unit. I went an watched your other video again. Then it can stay on using house power. the one we had from the old days got dripped on, got wet. Grrrr! It's cool you mentioned people buy patch leads to their antenna with the plugs. That's best to pony up. You get that braid on cable mixed with +. It will demoralize the hobby starter! :) Anyway...

I remember in the 90s when new breakers came on with a really bad buzzzzzing noise because they were using a battery charger for a power supply lol .I was lucky there was a lot of breakers close to me that kept me rite saying that i was on the air for over a month before i got told about SWR .

Hello Fred thank you for sharing as always . I was thinking of purchasing the Alinco DX-10 , the only hesitating thing about the DX-10 is it's only 20-25 watts on SSB & 4 watts on FM UK 40 , I already have the CRT 6900 & it's a very similar radio but the 6900 has more power , I also have the CRT 9900 too. I like the Alinco DX-10 due to it's build quality & it's fairly compact size , but I'm struggling to see what benefits I would have in owning an Alinco DX-10 ? & I'm interested as to why some people prefer the Alinco DX-10 to the 6900 ? , the Alinco must have some benefits over the 6900 ?, I just need to find out what those benefits are before I purchase an Alinco DX-10 ?.

Hi fred, thanks for all your videos. I’m brand new to CB, and wrting from France. I’ve purchased a president Mc Kinley that I have just installed in my car today. I was surprised to realize, strating it for the first time, that I had been provided with an export modified radio ( from the shop) when I only wanted an EU mode radio. First trials, TOS/WATT meter connected,with a TOS measured at 1.3, i could measure my output power on my watt meter in AM/FM mode, but nothing seems coming out in LSB/USB mode. When I press the PTT button, nothing moves on the meter, and TOS = 0. Do you thing it’s normal ? If modulation works in AM it should only work in LSB/USB should’nt it ? Grateful if you can help, I’m lost !! Kind regards, Serge

Hi. Yes your correct when you dead key in SSB no power will be produced till you talk into the mic, then it will peak up and down. This si because unlike FM there is no carrier wave.

Sorry Fred but in this video you give some very bad advice for beginners. For instance buying premade patch leads. These are the worst quality coax and will only help to put people off of the hobby because they will just cause so many problems. Sorry mate, usually your videos contain a lot of useful information. However. On this one you seem to have misplaced your mojo.
@CB-RADIO-UK
@CB-RADIO-UK 4 ай бұрын
Hi. No need to apologise as everyone is entitled to an opinion. I myself have bought patch leads which are a direct short and needed a re solder. However this video is aimed at the true beginner who has never touched a radio let alone picked up a soldering iron and attempted a PL259 plug. In this scenario the video in my opinion works best with a pre soldered patch lead.
@cbrmac

Anyone who has to be shown how to wire up the radio is not going to be able to solder on pl259s so I agree with Fred and buy one ... sorry but you are wrong and assume everyone has the same skills
