Just got mine and plan on testing the receive capabilities on SW Band. Would of liked a removable belt clip otherwise looks perfect to throw in a bag.

Fred please can you help I am aware of the restriction to 0.5watt output but I often have to use PMR or FRS type radios in search and recovery situations in remote areas overseas Can the power output be changed on these at all or can you recommend cheap but fairly rugged similar type radios that have to have easy channel selection. I am using them in places where the power output legality is not an issue but I do need as much signal penetration as possible.

If I were to make this adjustment, would I have to re-tune the radio?

Watched, albeit 6 months late. Just getting back into radio after 20 years of other hobbies. Your channel is is and mind of info. Keep it up😊👍🏻

Very timely video Fred! The orange model was pretty cheap in the U.S. (under $10) on Amazon but I ended up buying the model that had NOAA reception ($17). It'll be a great gift for my Brother-in-law and his family. They bought 20 acres of land about 150 miles North of Houston and have a trailer up there while their house is being built. They're still working/living in Houston, so their son spends his days up there improving the property and we wanted something that would (at the least) give him the simple basics, AM-FM-SW-NOAA whenever the weather gets bad. Thanks for the video, review and thumbs up. Cheers & Beers, and Merry Christmas!

Another excellent video Fred, thank you! Do you or does anyone here know if Baofeng Uv17 or Uv18 can receive and display DTMF CODES? For example, If i send DTMF code via Uv18 pro max to Quasheng k5/6 model, the audio comes, and it clearly shows on the screen the actual DTMF code. If i send DTMF code from Quasheng to any of my other Baofeng radios, audio comes but it does not show or display actual DTMF codes on the screen like Quansheng radio. Could you please make a short video on this topic please? Thank you!!

219 is a great little set that costs peanuts, I pull in Radio Romania at night (Co. Down coast) on its own antenna with no trouble. I have compared the 219 with my more expensive and similar sized Tescun R1212A, the Tescun is rubbish compared to the 219 in every way especially the build quality.

I have one. I tend to stay on FM. Excellent though this is, I find the Prunus J-166 and J-777 a little bit better in terms of sound quality. The trick is to enjoy each radio though. Each has its own voice. Merry Christmas.

I had one of these - it's a capable little receiver, picked up tons of stations on all the bands but the tuning on shortwave in particular is extremely difficult because you have to do it so slowly in order to not skip over stations. I ended up giving it to a neighbor kid who seems to find it neat. If you're more patient than me, it's definitely worth picking up. Thanks for the review Fred!

There is only one D-220 version, no separate 9/10 kHz versions. The tuning steps are 1 kHz, in fact. XHDATA confirmed that with me. There is the D-221 model, which adds the N. American weather channels and removes the wider FM band.

Fred did you notice on the Amazon website marketing for this they (XHDATA) state that this radio is, and I quote, “A great choice for everyone” and proceed to give examples of uses which include parties! And a picture of three elderly people gathered around a birthday cake 🎂 and a D-220 😂🎉

I have one of these and purely for a power outage or something worse. It's a lovely clear sound, very sensitive and will pull in far off stations very well. The downside is, poor inaccurate tuning and radio birdie whilst tuning on some occasions. Not bad for ten quid though and if you are curious, check out some KZbin vids about what's inside them. It will save you opening yours and struggling to put it back together, when the tuning indicator falls out.😊

Thanks Fred for your Video. I live in the U. S. In Northern Indiana. Longtime Licensed Amateur Radio (Ham) operator WD9AKG and ALPHA CHARLIE 1046 ON 11 meters. Because of your videos I am sold on this Radio!! excellent Videos! I would so much LOVE to see a version of this radio with the same form factor, but a remote capable head unit to accommodate the small size cabins in the cars in America. Mount the electronics in the trunk or under the seat and the head unit mounted to dash or console. No one seems to be doing this in the 10 or 11 meter radio offerings.... Thanks again mate! 73

I have the Retekess TR113. Retekess claims that you cannot update the firmware on their unit. Anyway, it has firmware 1.7.10, already has the mute you can toggle. Well anyway, mine is going back to Amazon after the Christmas rush is over. Too many little problems and missing features for me.

Little funny perhaps but the K5(99) I just purchased seems to be exactly as your modded set. F5 brings up the spectrum etc.. Only thing I haven't been able to figure as yet is how to get Chirp to recognize and allow programming the 10-100 memory groups I'm supposed to have.
