I remember! Back then,Lots of people criticized Lyoto Machida for this fight. They say that it was a rubbery and Rua should win this fight. I completely disagree with that! Yes! It was a close fight but! I think Lyoto did enough to win this fight. If you guys noticed anytime when Rua was attacking , Lyoto was executing perfectly counter punch in head. Beside that it was obvious that commentator Joe Rogan was on Rua s side and he was praising Rua s name often even when Machida was scoring and he was creating image that Rua was wining the fight.I rewatched the fight with volume down and you can see clearly how Lyoto Machida was scoring perfectly.

I gotta disagree. I seen countless hits by shogun that weren't countered and some that didn't land. Very close and good fight tho. No eye pokes and bs.

@@CaptainCorpulence No! I didn’t say that! Looks like you don’t read comments carefully! I said anytime when shogun was kicking machida s legs machida perfectly was executing head counter punches. Lyoto was landing a lot of straight punches and knees to the gut. Stuffed them takedowns too. Jon Jones watched this fight very closely, he opened the title fight with a knee that Shogun never recovered from. Jones watched all the LHW fights that Machida fought, Machida exposed a lot of holes in their game that Greg Jackson took advantage of.
@biscobisco1882
@biscobisco1882 3 ай бұрын
Machida landing knees to the body while Shogun is throwing a punch has nothing to do with 6'4" Jones landing a jumping knee to the head on the lead 18 months later and one knee injury later. Machida himself didn't even capitalise on it in their rematch.
@jonathanbradley4896
@jonathanbradley4896 2 ай бұрын
The Shogun that faced Jones wasn't even 30% of the one you saw in this video. His knees held out just long enough to take the title from Machida then he was cooked, and the damage he took from Dan Henderson basically ended his career. If this Shogun faced Jones in 2011 it would have been a much more competitive fight. Not saying Shogun would have won because Jones is obviously the 205 GOAT, but he wouldn't have completely been destroyed like we saw.

This era of the ufc was the perfect mix of brute strength and heightened skill. Don’t get me wrong there are still slug fest today but it’s always from the same handful of fighters. In the begging it wasn’t as fluid it was more about the biggest strongest guy that can take the best punch won. Now it’s everybody wants that picture perfect moment so it’s more of a dance then a fight this era here was in between where the fighters started mastering their craft and doing amazing things but still have that brawler dog in em and made it a slug fest and a master class at the same time

@@bendahova6196lol what are you waffling on about? The ufc and by extension all of mma, has OBJECTIVELY improved since this period. EVERYBODY with a brain, that actually understands combat sports, that isn't a newer fan that's tryna get some Internet points by pretending they're all about that "golden era" they probably didn't even experience, and that can name more fighters than they have fingers and toes and also AREN'T completely blinded by nostalgia or recency bias, knows for a fact that MMA has been on a complete upward trend since literally 1993. It continues to get better today, outside of some controversies that plague this and for that matter, every other sport with any large amounts of money involved. It's really ridiculous for anybody to say it's worse today 😅 like, really really ridiculous. If yall enjoyed watching a bunch of oiled up steroid monkeys that can't even shoot a takedown or throw an actual punch more than actual MMA that we watch today, then go get fightpass and watch the old stuff. It's all there to watch. I've done it multiple times and other than the odd few, the fights pre ufc 150 and usada are all mostly terrible slugfests with ALL the action happening in a single round, and the rest of the fights a pair of extremely juicy, completely gassed thugs circle eachother in the centre of the octagon until time is called. Not my idea of "good". Good is ufc 300. Go catch max v justin and tell me this is worse 😅

This was one of those things were people didn't always know what they were looking at, including Rogan. Case in point, Shoguns low kicks. Rogan thinks he sees the low kick landing constantly, but what Machida was doing is stepping through the kick and using that to counter with his cross. It takes a lot of steam out of the kick but gives him the opportunity to land a shot. It's a thing he's brought over from his karate training and which he consistently kept in his toolbox and it was working for him here.
@biscobisco1882

Shogun was repeatedly catching Machida's trailing leg as he retreated from Shogun's hands too - there's no chance Machida was 'stepping through' those. If you're going to annoint yourself as an authority, you should probably acknowledge those moments.

So i guess the entire building full of thousands of fans were wrong too then? I've never heard a more maligned decision than this by the crowd. Blaming it on rogan like he's the ONLY person who saw the fight in Rua's favour is crazy. There's a reason the decision is considered controversial. As there is with almost any controversial decision. If it wasnt a controversial decision, thered be no controversy, now would there. For a fight to be questioned like that and then still be questioned over a long period of time, there's a reason. We ain't here saying it's a bad decision for the good of our health. Obviously, people think something is a little off about it. Exactly the same as any other dubious call in the sport. If they were all 100 percent easy-to-see victories and correct calls, the controversy and drama wouldn't exist to begin with and everybody would agree with eachother that the absolutely right decision was made. 😅

He then beat mark Coleman and chuck Liddell which changed the dynamic but I don’t think many people during that time thought he could dismantle Lyoto the way he did. I’ve been a fan of the Rua brothers for a very long time

@@lucifer1313 e Gustaffson e Reyes macetaram jones.

I can understand the decision being controversial, but Lyoto won this fight, I think most people give it to Shogun because of the clear bias of Joe Rogan and the other commentators

He really didn't though, look up the fightmetric Stats. Shogun outlanded Lyoto in 4 out of 5 rounds. Rounds 2, 4 and 5 are clear Shogun rounds IMO, and round 1 in my books too. The only round Lyoto decisively won was round 3. Add in that Shogun was the aggressor for 95% of the fight and held the center of the cage (yes I know this is Lyotos style to circle and counter but part of the judging criteria is meant to be "aggression and octagon control") This was a pretty clear win for Rua I'd give it to Shogun 49-46 but if you give round 1 to Lyoto then it's still 48-47 Rua.

Achei machida melhor... shogun estava dando bicudas correndo... cambaleou algumas vezes. Chutes inexpressivos.

The sport is scored by points. If you are not there for your opponent to hit you they cannot score that point. There are also points awarded for octagon control, but when this fight happened the sport was in its "awkward teen state" of development.

That is a fair statement considering the abbreviated version of what was shown. Sadly, MMA scoring has been notoriously inconsistent with what others perceived as what the obvious outcome should be.
