i have one of the oxo air tight containers and i really hate it. the push down button on top got stuck inside and it was a nightmare to take it apart and repair it. the better homes and gardens flip tite ones are better and cheaper. you really motivate me to be more organized. thanks and keep up the great work.

Warning. I used those. Key word USED.... but no more. If she does make sure that the Rod she is hanging them from has more than enough weight support brackets like every 10-12 inches. Seriously! Closet Maid at Home Depot is the good stuff but if you can find an actual person working there tell them what you need and they can help you find cheaper options but closet maid (brand) is good stuff if you can splurge. Good luck Also most dry wall STUDS the board behind the dry wall) are spaced typically spaced 12 or 16 inches apart and use wall screw achors ! A must.

I can relate. One time I accidentally used chili powder instead of cinnamon on French toast Bcuz the bottles were almost the same looking. 😅😅 Although for me I label some things…often just use whatever is handy with a sharpie (scotch tape, masking tape, leftover stickers I have etc).

That's what I did but I put Bengay on my toothbrush, & it & the toothpaste were clearly labeled. Apparently I.have to read the labels, or they don't help! And years ago I went to put drops in my eyes & didn't read the label although the Holy Spirit clearly said to me on the inside "read the label, read thelabel, read the label". And I was an old RN with years of experience. We're taught to check the labepl 3 times and for 5 criteria before administering each med. But I didn't listen or think & put concentrated mineral drops in my eyes. They burned terribly but did no damage. Thank You, Lord for protecting the foolish!

I only label baking items too. Just so they are easy to grab when I'm baking. Nothing else in my pantry is labeled. I redid our pantry a couple months ago and it is still maintained so I must have done it right for our family finally. Every other time we couldn't maintain it so now I have improved.

I like that you emphasize function, the “after” shows empty spaces, reality is we should only have what we actually need and use. This looks so practical. I have a small pantry, I live alone, and I am about to do a refresh on my pantry. It is 24” deep with built in pshelves on one side. I am replacing plastic stackable shelves on the other side with wire shelves. All of the items are already organized by category and decanted, I just want to update it. I am mindful of expiration dates and what I buy. This video was very helpful. I’m planning to get this done in just a few hours tomorrow. Any suggestions would be welcome.

A day later: new wire shelved in, emptied and wiped down everything, arranged like things together, and actually have a baking shelf. Thank you for sharing your wisdom at just the right time. I just finished putting labels on 2 see through canisters. I thought one was flour and when I opened it I thought this may not be flour. I tasted and it was powdered sugar. So, sometimes I like a label. I agree they are usually not necessary, but there are times. And it’s always good to open up the cabinet or closet and doors to see organization and you really help.

Andrea Jean, next time can you take a moment and show how you fit all the "belongs somewhere else" items into their new homes? I found that not keeping a map of their new locations, meant we "lost" things after the big purge and then we bought replacements in some cases...I imagine the glue gun got put in the pantry to keep it away from youngsters hands... My place has (too) many things but closed storage is not one of them! So I look forward to how you handle that open closet! I almost have decided to make one room into a warehouse space just to get more openness in the rest of the place... I know decluttering again is on my near horizon but it is so challenging and time consuming. I think for many of us the issue is that there is the way we are currently living and all the things we'd like to do or have done in the past that we enjoyed so then we feel a need to keep the stuff that goes with those activities (which then clutters up the space and makes us less inclined to do the activities associated). For families with children of multiple ages/stages it is only compounded (why rebuy things we will need again in 2-5 years?) Maybe you will address some of these issues in future videos? TIA

As always, great job! I wish I had that pantry, I have a small single closet size pantry and even though there are only two of us, it's not enough room. My pantry had a single bifold door covering it up so I suggested my hubby, a retired carpenter split the panels so you had more access to the sides of the pantry. Worked like a charm!!! And the best was there was minimal costs, just new knobs and hinges and I love it!

I have the mason jar organization as I do a lot of home cooking and buy many ingredients in bulk bins. The only labels I have added so far are on jars that are ingredients for specific dishes I intend to make (so garbanzo bean flour is labeled for burmese tofu since that's why I bought it). If I decanted corn starch, rice flour, pastry flour, baking soda and powdered sugar I would definitely have to label those esp since they would be in a "baking" bin. and despite being the chief cook and bottle washer, I would need help knowing those apart! But yes, the only things I've determined to always label are spices and that's just because I like to keep those in alpha order...If I had many prepared items like you show it would make no sense to label those bins! One thing that my system is needing is a switch up: I have finally eaten down enough of the Covid stock that I can move the empty jars into a new space and put all food items into one place. I use a shelving unit that acts like a pantry. It will help to free up some cabinet space and I will feel a bit more organized even if it falls under "rearranging deck chairs". Sometimes you just have to do what helps you feel more able and efficient. And keeping the jars over the counter area will make better sense since that is where they get ultimately get used and so are needed most in that area. The cabinets over the counter are small and cannot hold all the dry goods so I'm keeping the shelving unit for now. I always look at my space and wonder how did those folks back in 1920 actually function in this kitchen??? (that said, I am pretty sure the fixtures are not original to the house, but the galley kitchen is very small). I love how you have kept the floor space empty! I can't really do that so I have put as much as I can on wheels so I can at least roll things out in order to clean! Look at Harbor Freight for the movers dolleys that are just a wooden rectangle with wheels attached. They work great under most of the large Sterilite bins which if full can become too heavy to shift easily.

When I buy food, powdered (gravy, pancake mixes, etc for example) and spices from a bulk bin I use labels for the item and a wet erase marker to date the container.

You could always write the expiration date with a Sharpie on a piece of Scotch tape, and then stick it to the back or bottom of the container. I like to turn the end of the tape under so there's a little tab sticking up. Then I can rip it off easily.

Re floors in pantry. I need the floor space in the small walk in pantry. To make it pretty and functional, I acquired 2 beautiful wooden wine boxes and used them to store items and are stacked together. Next to them is a matching colored wooden crate which also has an important use. It looks perfect.

I dont know how i haven't found you before! i love watching organizing video's. i just take what i think would work with my family and try to incorporate it and after time sometimes solutions do not work anymore and you gotta change them out... Ha! I label in my pantry (eh, my first aid and bathroom/personal supplies, too!) for 2 reasons: 1. Helps hubby put things back in the right bins (potatoes, onions, sweet potatoes, candy, cookies, salty snacks [chips, crackers nuts], bar snacks [granola, etc]...otherwise the bins would have a jumble of products tossed into the bin that was least overflowing! (He does keep the garage pantry beautifully...you know, Costco case of veggies, etc.) 2. Looking at the labels and organization makes my go "ahhhh" and my blood pressure lowers! (OCD much? Dunno, never been diagnosed...I just like everything to have a place and be in place! Clutter and chaos drives me nuts!

For plastic containers I use permanent marker. You only need a small spray of hairspray and a wipe and it’s gone. Also a quick wash after.

I'm with you about using the Cricuit to label everything. Yes, the labels are beautiful, but who has the time to do it, especially picking off those little parts of letters? I tried putting all the condiments, dressings, etc. in individual bins in my cabinet pantry. But my husband never looks in it, so he just buys more, and often at the warehouse club, so we get two of everything. Things wouldn't fit until I got rid of some of those bins. I just arranged everything neatly so we can all see what's there IF we look. I also have a list of what we have and little Post-It notes to write (if HE remembers) what to repurchase.
