I’ve just finished making this dome. Took me a day to chop the timber, get the wangers on the struts and build it. Goes together really easy and it’s very very strong when all the nuts are right. Fantastic work from Paul making this possible

These plans are fantastic. One thing I noted was the lack of information for scaling the green strut for the half triangles along the base. I am sure I could figure it out, but it would have been nice to include the information in the plans. For the door frame, would a piece of 19mm plywood cut to dimensions work too?

After watching the video again, Paul did mention that he would be doing additional plans and details for various size 2V domes from 3m on up in half meter increments later.

@@bwillan Yes, I will be but of you want to know for now the green strut is half then length of a yellow one and you only have to take off 55mm for a wangerflange on one end.

I'd be interested in a design ideas for the "fish scale" tessellating geodesic covering on the Dome of Visions dome in Copenhagen that's bolted together. The design is supposed to be a closely guarded secret. Any thoughts would be great. Cheers Paul.

Paul . these videos are just great. But trying to get my head around , Why are there a few pentagons in geodesic domes ? Would it be just easier to make the whole thing out of hexagons, and make the next higher level triangles a bit smaller, to get the curve? thanks
@mrnobodynobody.
@mrnobodynobody. 9 ай бұрын
You need 250 wanger flanger connectors in this build it cost 350£ thats 380€ + bolts +- 100 ,its just doesn't cut with expectations of someone who is into affordable living. In my country timber 50*50 is 1 euro to build 3v dome 5m wide i need 168 meters of it so its 170€ timber 40€ screws 210€ in total for higher frequency dome made in bevel or "good carma" method all included.

Great post as always Paul! I was about to ask you in one of your previous videos as to how many wanger flanges needed for the 2v. Anyway, got a quick look in the plan and you use struts that is roughly 2” (49 mm) but did not specify the height. What is the maximum strut height suitable for this construction? Would 2” x 6” work or you would only recommend a 2” x 2” strut for this. Thanks!
@JohnGuest45
@JohnGuest45 4 жыл бұрын
Its not worth using 2x6`s. With the fixing screws centered at each end, the strut is free to rotate when subject to torsional moments. A WF dome is essentially constructed of square rollers. Most geodesic hubs are designed to transfer torsional moments so the struts cant rotate. You can solve it by using 2 sets of brackets per 2x6 but then you may as well use tubular hubs, its about the same amount of work and vastly cheaper.

Hi Paul great Works Again ! And fantastic idea the middle line ! Do you think it would be auto stable half dôme ? The idea would be to have two half dome, one smaller the upper one and so that would create openable dome ??? With pivot at the base common point between the two half dome. I am looking for a pool cover. Regards i hope but afraid not readind you facing your success.
@Geo-Dome
@Geo-Dome 4 жыл бұрын
No, unless you have something attached to all the struts around the edge to give it stiffness they would distort or wobble a good bit. It's a great idea the opening eye thing but engineering it is a challenge, it might be possible with truss system, I'll have a think about it

People have more and more pool and above all this year...+400 %...that a crazy and worry news about ecology...but it is like that....à pool house or « dome Help you reduce chimistry and keep clean your water so solve pump time so we can Say is a little bit better... And it allow also child to swim more often in lot of unsunny place So to resume :pool is a lot non ecology think but as far as i would like to take care environment i need a efficient cover! And it s really going to be a business so get ready That why i think geodome ! Your last video is a wonderful idea to permit openable dome with pivot or translation half dôme. in my case, I am just afraid the amount of wanger in trussed dome I hope to read you again maybe with news about this project Thanks again Regards

Hoping for a reasonably simple answer... I've tried looking round your site and done all sorts of searches on the web but can't find details of the dihedral angles on this structure. I see them for 3v, but that doesn't help here. If it's to be clad in ply then I need the angles for the bevels to cut the sheets so that they butt up against each other properly. I know that I should be able to work them out with some trig, but I'm struggling as to how to start. Clearly I need a maths revision! I assume that it's reasonable to clad with ply when using the wangerflanges. If not then I'll need to use bevel frame, which will still need the dihedral angles. Would be grateful if anyone can help.
@Geo-Dome
@Geo-Dome 4 жыл бұрын
You're right there isn't much on the web, if you use this calculator: geo-dome.co.uk/2v_tool.asp Dihedral angles for red strut is 157.5° Blue struts are 162° Making bevel angles of 11.25° (red) and 9° Blue. Hope this helps. I have changed geometry on my own plans to 10° for all struts but you have to use measurements from the plans for this to work.

@@Geo-Dome Reading your response again you talk of your plans. Are you referring to the 2v with wangerflanges in this video, or a 2v bevel frame plan. If the latter then please can you direct me to it as I'm happy to buy it, but couldn't see one that was described as a basic half dome 2v. That would then enable me to decide on either bevel frame or using the dimensions on that plan then reducing by 110mm and using wangerflanges. But it would make the cutting of the bevels far easier if they were all the same!
