but how can you be human if you fill your scene up with so many things you plan beforehand that you are doing subconsciously? I thought acting wasn't supposed to feel too much like acting?

Through muscle memory! Also, give your actions motivations in line with your character. ie. Why is your character doing it? Does it serve the scene and stay true to the character? Although you should be inventive, you shouldn't do things just to do them (ie. "trying" to be funny just to be funny).

You are correct, it's extremely important to know your casting type and in order to answer that question, Brad Heller would have to spend some time working with you on your craft.
