Crying on cue has been such a mystery to me...I've seen all the videos. When I clicked this video I wasn't even looking for crying on cue, I was just wanting to learn about how to evoke emotions. So I tried your method of saying the word "joy" and notice that "tingle". Kept on repeating the word, 5 seconds in I was suddenly in tears.. wasn't even thinking abt crying but suddenly my associations with the word came to life. THIS METHOD WORKS

How can I make my acting be more than just words? I mean, how do I add more depth and make it realistic without it going overboard and getting almost too much. I think it's important to feel the emotion, but I think putting yourself into the idea of the character and the scene is enough to invoke emotion. When you can't separate yourself from the character in the situation then you can feel the emotion of the character and understanding that characters feeling the motivate of that emotion makes it more real. Some times feeling out of breath is going to make your emotions right at the surface because you are desperate for breath to either unleash the emotion to breath or to catch your breath to calm the emotion. That is my personal approach. While some times taking speeding your breath up ramps your emotions it is that big pause that truly builds it because it's the one second to really feel it and then deliver the lines in that emotion.

8:38 thought creates emotion. Individual thoughts run at a thousand of a second. In one second of dialogue within your scene the body has the potential of having that many expressed emotions. Micro expressions happen at a thousandth of a second. The actor needs to control thought to control emotion to accurately Express the scene.

Wow, this is fantastic! Thank you so much sir! Oh, btw, I'm not sure if anyone has ever mentioned this to you but you have similar mannerisms and facial quirks that Robert Downey Jr. has when he speaks and displays emotion and expression facially. You truly do sir. I've been examining his acting methods, and I think that one of his most prominent acting characteristics is his non-verbal facial communication when he speaks or displays emotion.

12:26 you're speaking about the neurology of the frontal cortex PFC and the amygdala that runs your sympathetic nervous system. In your technique you are teaching your amygdala running at 2 million data bits per second with the prefrontal cortex that runs at three data bits per second. Like you state repetition linked with emotion over time will build the techniques that are used with the technique you describe. Keep up the good work :-)

Although I have been a member of amateur dramatic groups, I didn't take the learning further. At 51 I'm happy to say I'm off to uni next year to study drama. The biggest reason for this is because I know I'll regret it if I don't.

Any tips for doing a scene where the character has a gun to his head and is trying (and failing) to talk himself out of being killed then gets shot and lies lifelessly on the ground for about a minute until the scene ends? it's just for a school play lol but I still wanna give teh best performance I can
@thehellerapproach8 ай бұрын
Hi @Hopefulwatermelon. In a scene where your character faces imminent danger with a gun to their head, the key is to convey the intense emotions and desperation of the moment authentically. Before the fatal moment, focus on your character's objective, which might be something like 'to not die', to survive' or 'to escape.' Embrace the emotions of TERROR or PANIC to immerse yourself fully in the scene. When picking emotion or objective, it should be something that you can relate to. When portraying the aftermath of being shot and lying lifelessly on the ground, maintain stillness to convey the gravity of the situation. Best of luck with your school play!

This is much healthier and makes your body much more professional than remembering losing loved ones, what if I want to feel happy do I do the same heavy breathing or is there another technic for that.
@thehellerapproach3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's definitely more healthy for you to use this technique! And yes, the breathing technique works for all emotions :)

You don't seem to have a strong foundation of emotional understanding, and I'm concerned that you may just be causing more confusion than clarity. When pushing actors to feel heightened emotions, what technique do you use to keep them safe?

Does it take time to make us to get our body use to our exercise into our execution to the expression we need? If so, how long does it? Thanks for the attention, Prof. 🙏
