I can chicken also. I put the whole chicken in a roaster overnight on low, pull the meat off the bone, then can the meat and broth. It taste just like crock pot chicken. My favorite recipe to use it is probably enchiladas. Yum!

I'm glad you are a pressure cooker person, and the next part of my comment is for your safety and something my late mother in law (RIP) drilled into my head was to - never - never move a pressure cooker after you have ran a cycle of whatever you have just pressure cooked because it has the "potential" to explode because it's still under "pressure" . You just turn it off and let it sit where it's at until it has naturally released its pressure then its safe to move. My friend did that one time and scared the living you know what out of me. And I just want you to be safe.

DC, if you’re raw packing, you don’t need to warm the jars or heat the water. Cold chicken into cold jars into cold water. Then just slowly bring up to pressure.

I just started doing this and I am in shock about how much good food gets thrown away. Today, I got almost $100 worth of just fresh chicken. I estimate that my one day haul was close to $200 worth of food after visiting two undisclosed locations. I even found milk that was still cold that had four days left on the code.

Was that chicken cold when you took it out of the dumpster? Or do you take any Chicken you find?
@DumpsterCam Жыл бұрын
No, I definitely only take cold meat! Even if it's cold, I always do the smell and look test as well. Sometimes when I open a pack of meat it has that bad smell, so I would just discard that

Thank you! I do what I can now. I sew a lot (recycle my own clothes and thrift finds) to avoid spending money on clothes. I have also started to use ALL my food instead of wasting. I propagate my house plants instead of buying new ones. It helps my pocket book and reduces my footprint on our planet, our home 🏡 ❤️ 😀 My saying is... the more stiff you have, the more stiff you have to take care of, the less time you have!

Isn't there a rule that you only put cold jars/food in cold water or hot jars/food in hot water? Also, isn't the canner supposed to be full so the jars don't flop around and break?
@DumpsterCam Жыл бұрын
My canner guide says hot water even with raw pack, so that's just what I've always done 🤷♀️ Thankfully I've never had an issue. The canner doesn't need to be full, but there is a minimum load of 2 quart jars or 4 pint jars to ensure correct pressure, so this load was fine

Please becareful of putting cold raw chicken into an already hot canner of water. Potential to have your jars break. Better to put cold chicken, cold canner, cold water, by cold i mean room temperature. Happy canning.

Good little haul Cam, l’m not sure if pressure canning is done here probably some people do it, I find it an interesting process and those bagels look tasty l’ve never tried them so it’s something I will definitely try, with cream cheese and ham, those Ball mason jars are expensive here l managed to get a pack of six or eight from a charity shop, I keep my bead collection in them lol, and Gus bless him he loves being in his own home l think Kippy is more easy going than him, both are adorable as always, and come on girls start laying those eggs for Cam lol, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
