The key take away is root touching water, Rhizome above water. And importantly is humidity.. with lighting? Can I use those hydroponic brown balls / gravel/ lava rocks (3-5mm) or those aquascape mash those are stackable to keep plant up. I use to have them like in hydroponic but they rot.. only leaves above water surface. I’m guess humidity is important as transition to emersed growth

Are you using fertilizer for the anubias in the cup?
@AriaArah
@AriaArah 3 ай бұрын
It's fun to grow anubias. Some may mistake them for plastic plants since they have this thick leaves, especially if they are deep green in color. The only thing though is you have to wait for a lifetime (LOL) to get many leaves. That is probably the reason why anubias are exepensive here in the Philippines.

Hi Vern! Without cutting they would be to big and would require much higher containers to fit. Plants need to have space to grow and high containers require more water (like you said), they will not fit under the light etc. It's just much more practical to just cut them ;)

And the other one seems stunned and after having it for 2 month it has barely made 2 small roots and no new leafs. Do you have any advice of what i can do?
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube Жыл бұрын
As long as the rhizome is fine - thay can be saved. Keep them in moist place and under the light, but not under water. Like very damp container that you will frequently spray with water. In the past I was able to grow Anubias from "empty" rhizome - so this is the key. But it will take a long time - really long. It takes a lot of work, but you can try this out just as an experiment? Anubias is really tough plant - and you might get some results.

So with regards to java fern its not necessary to propogate it using the rhizome as if you cut off the tips of the leaves and leave them floating they eventually make their own rhizome this is how Java ferns propogate in nature
@qwertyuiopasdfghjkl4403
@qwertyuiopasdfghjkl4403 Жыл бұрын
i don't do emersed propagation because when you grow it emersed and plant it in the tank it would die back since all the leaves are emersed grown and it would grow new ones submerged so whats the point? just cut it in smaller pieces drop it in the tank let it grow submerged leaves then use it to scape.
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube Жыл бұрын
It doesn't work like this with all plants. Anubias, Ferns, Buce etc. will not melt any leaves. And the point is that you can blast the plants with a lot of light without any problems with algae. This way you make them grow faster. THe same with many carpeting plants. Besides almost 100% of plants that you buy in pots - are grown exactly like that - out of water.
@BKNew2022

Can we divide, tie the plant to a cup but put it inside the fish tank and under water? Will the plant grow slower under water?
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 2 ай бұрын
Yes you can do that. It might grow a bit slower, but the biggest risk is the algae forming on the leaves. This is why they are growing faster out of the water - because you can use much more light with no risk of algae.

If it grows long enough, like for a few years or so, and the rhizome has grown considerably, it is going to be worth A LOT! So if you want to keep all of the Anubias and know you can't care for it anymore down the line, consider not cutting it so whenyou do have to sell it, you'll get more money out of it than just a cutting
