@@JG-xm8jy The Egyptian Government has siezed the ship and was most likely fining it daily. Since the company was not based in Egypt there is not much more then can do, they can't force a company in another country to pay, they could potentially stop other ships from the same company and sieze them as well, but if you google Telos shipping they had issues with other vessels in other ports. Most likely the company just closes, abandoning its debts and employees. The owners walk off with thier money and start another company doing the same shady business, running vessels with expired or inadequte safety equipment and certs. If/When the government siezes and auctions off the ship they will probably priotize paying off all those daily fines over paying the crew wages and other company debts.

I hope there is a way that ITF can end up with the rights to the ship, and then sell it and roll the proceeds back into helping seafarers.

my only question is this: why didn't the locals care to help him? 4 years? Yeah Egypt got a real nice people.

Aircastles101 I think the swimming back and forth was after the ship was blown closer to shore.

Sounds like he won’t be getting paid either if the ship “owner” can’t even be bothered to sell their ship.

@Jakecooks3 жыл бұрын
@@Mantae123 heck even sell things bolted down, could probably make some money off the navi systems etc. Buy or rent a small boat to use for going back and forth and just keep scrapping it.

I would raise an Egyptian crew, contact a Turkish shipbreakers and arrange for a one time passage through the canal to get the ship to the Turkish breakers. The money raised from the scrap will pay the crew and the Egyptian authorities. Though surely there's a shipbreakers on the African east coast somewhere.. A dodgy yard in Somalia that will take it no questions asked.

I think if we're being honest, if the evergiven incident hadn't brought light to seafarer abandonment, and this case in particular, he'd still be stuck on that ship.

Home for Ramadan! I shall smile all day now. Well done for helping bring it to the attention of so many. Funny how it resolved so swiftly when you got it out there. 👍

Thank you Chief Makoi for the good news and effort to inform the net about such job injustice. Everyone is sure you played a big roll to help free this dedicated sailor from this unjust imprisonment.

My seafarer chaplain husband told me of crews being abandoned here in Canada for weeks or months and I thought that was evil. Our courts get these cases settled within a few months because they aren't about trying to protect the "honor" of ship owners like they do in Arab countries. God bless this man!
@Jack-he8jv3 жыл бұрын
you got big daddy USA, if the owners refused to pay then they will be hunted down. arab countries cant harm the owners, hence they need leverage, usually it works within months too, this case is unique.
