This moved me very deeply. I love to see those in authority helping those new to employment and training. Encouragement is so much more powerful than criticism. Thank you Chief. May calm seas and fair winds bless your days.

I'm sorry, Chief, but I couldn't finish your video. The music was so loud as compared to your voice over. It's the same as loud commercials... the main content levels are lower, and don't take up the entire audio spectrum like commercials do. I wish all of the cadets a safe and long career!

What a difference in weld quality between those kids! It's a good skills test, but there is no "identify this metal by the color and shape of the sparks" section? Just arc skills?

Young cadets competing for welding skills that could reward them for a lifetime! The maritime industry is the ultimate beneficiary of this event. Congratulations, Chief! 💯

One of the contestants had great skill, using his left hand as a steady for controlling the rod (@6.20) and he also appeared to move the rod more than others, thereby getting good penetration into both pieces of metal, away more "fluid" action than others,, I wonder was he one of the winners?

I was taught to weld (brazing, stick welding and silver soldering) by an Ex RAF engineer. He was a brilliant gent and his knowledge and skill were outstanding.

On heavy truck diesel engines...........10,000 hours would be what most operators would expect from injector nozzles. The major problem has always been that OEM fuel filters are only 60% efficient at their micron rating. But new aftermarket products are on the market, widely used by transport and mining industries that are 99% efficient at 2 micron, and so injector contamination and even rust from dissolved moisture (always present in petroleum fuels of all kinds) has been eliminated.

Welcome chief, all your videos are fascinating let me ask you to do a favor for me could you send me a book of a marine engineer which is written by taylor

Nice job. Welding is a handy skill, especially on a metal ship. Teach them young and it is far easier. I wish someone had taught me. I am self taught, with all the bad habits that go with that. Not very good with stick. Much better with mig. But could certainly learn more and improve.

Competition, Is a grate teacher it makes the students look over the shoulder of the compaction to see how to do the task at hand better. If one learns to weld he or she has a job forever something is always broken. Thank you for your time. Paul

Very cool idea. I’m glad you could organize this. I’m always amazed at how crystal-clear the footage now is of such activities, despite the high light contrast. Cameras have come a long way.

I worked in a machine shop for 36 years, the most popular welding rod we used was 5/32 7018, I think that LH 314 rod is the same thing.
