Hey Pete, how are you doing? I’ve been having a problem with this update. When I go into the App Store and type in Logic Pro, for iPad, I only get an open button and no update button. I’ve checked all my settings, I’ve restarted my iPad, with no change in the App Store setting. I can’t even find how to do this manually in my settings. I follow the app Stor help to help me do this, but there is no place where I can update this program. I am a paid subscriber for this app. Any idea how I can get this update into my iPad. I’ve checked the version update and it’s 1.01 which I believe is the original. Help! Thanks Pete I appreciate all your help and your work that you have done has helped me and so many others learn these programs. Thank you so much.

hi Pete , thanks for all your very interesting lessons ! I’m a absolute beginner so I’ve participated this lesson here step by step in my very own first song I’ve made in Logic Pro for iPad. and my first finished song in a DAW anyway. I already mastered this song with one of your lessons, just loudness and panning because EQ and Compression still are too difficult. On the loudness penalty website I become 0,0 for Spotify. I tried Mastering Assistant this evening. I think it gives a good guide for the ears in terms of loudness. There is a BUT though. I’m no mastering engineer, but I felt that the automated EQ made some of my music sound much worse than I could achieve on my own. I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong, but at the moment I think I’ll just use the Mastering Assistant as a loose guide only…

If you're not seeing the mastering plug-in...check and make sure you are at iOS 17 then update Logic Pro for iPad.

Thanks, Pete! Can you explain what the Start and Reset buttons are for in the Loudness section of the Mastering Assistant? I assumed they are for calculating the Intermediate LUFS, which are not visible by default (only the Momentary and Short Term LUFS show values). So, if you just use the Mastering Assistant, will the Intermediate LUFS be automatically set to -14 - and the Start and Reset are only used if you want a different Intermediate LUFS value by increasing or decreasing the Loudness button?

Hey Colin. You’re on the right track there. If you play through the whole song the integrated LUFS should end up right around -14. The reset and start just literally reset to 0 and restart the measurement. Hi Pete and thanks for your always interesting videos, a question for you, I have a 2018 iPad Pro but I can't update Logic as I'm stuck with IOS version 16.5 for fear that it might slow down or have problems with some apps I use to play regularly even live. What can you tell me, do you think I can update IOS to the latest releases or is it better not to risk it?

Hey there. So, my usual advice is to not update if you’re working on something important. But if you don’t have any active projects you’re probably okay.

The Mastering Assistant is a great new feature for Logic Pro. Although I prefer to do the mastering inside AUM and using a bunch of plug-ins like, FabFilter, ToneBoosters, MixBox, YouLean etcetera. Great video and lovely song, Pete!

Hi. I use a MacBook. Same deal I guess and my Logic added the updates yesterday. So am i right in thinking that YOU DON’T BOUNCE DOWN a mix then use the mastering assistant on a new project’s Stereo Out? Is mastering assistant good to just use after mixing separate tracks, like in the video. Then done?I tend to bounce down mixed tracks then add a bit of overall compression and EQ to the track on a separate project.

Hey there. Yes, I hear you. I always bounced my final mix down and brought in to a separate project as a stereo file in the past for mastering. The only real reason to do that now is to make sure you don’t end up tweaking too much on the mix when you should be mastering. If you can trust yourself to leave the mix alone, just using the stereo out and mastering in your main project does the same thing. Oh and if I was mastering an EP or album, I’d pull all my stereo tracks in to one project so I could master and listen to them all in one place. Hope this helps!

The only problem here for me is that I’d play my mixed/bounced down tracks on different systems to check before mastering. Is this why you say ‘if you can trust yourself to leave the mix alone’? I guess i could do your process, and if unhappy, return to project and tweak. Obviously, if there was a glaring error at the end, i.e a guitar to loud etc, then you’d do that anyway.

Hey Pete, slight issue I’ve found: im not able to add, edit, remove, or even access the stereo out channel (all i can do is adjust the fader), no matter what i try. It’s also only on one specific track i have, but I don’t know what caused it. Have you experienced this?

I can’t find the Mastering Assistant, Pete. It just doesn’t show on either of my iPads. Everything is up to date. I press the set up button but nothing appears on the stereo out track. I’ve noticed that only the ‘M’ button is at the foot of my channel as opposed to the ‘M’ and ‘S’ buttons at the foot of yours. I just know I’m being dumb here, but any advice would be gratefully received. Cheers Pete.

That’s an odd one? You e definitely updated to the latest version of iPadOS and Logic Pro. Also try closing and reopening and of course turning your iPad off and back on often does good things.

When I use Mastering Assistant it limit the track to -0.9dB. Do you know how to change it to -0.3dB?

I’ll experiment with that as I’ve noticed it seems to default to -1.0. And I like -0.2-0.3. You could put a gain plugin after the mastering to increase it 0.6 I’m thinking? I’ll have a look. Watch this space.
