Gary Rossington played slide guitar on the first half of the song, while Allen Collins (who wrote the original riff of Free Bird while he was still in HS) played primary lead (sharing with Steve Gaines) on the guitar solo.

Johnny Van Zant actually does an amazing job. Ricky and Michael have been with them over 20 years and the others still quite a while. our whole group loved the concert and had a great time. I would see them again. I for one am not looking for them to break up.

Bagpipes are always hauntingly beautiful, from funerals to parades and memories of a chilly evening walk hand in hand with my wife in Stanley Park below the city of Vancouver, BC, the sound of the pipes wafting from a restaurant balcony.
