It's officially here! If you have a supported phone, you can now download the Blackmagic Camera App for your Android phone!
It's a shame it's limited to just the latest Galaxy and Pixel devices BUT, here's hoping this is just the start and it will trickle down to other devices moving forwards.
Either way, it's a great free app for Android that brings the Blackmagic UI AND cloud workflow to your Android device. Wahey!

@francojoem3114 Experience is going well. To be very honest, sometimes I feel to switch back. But the plus point is that I am having an iPhone, too. Some features S24 are still behind, but in many cases, S24 ultra is leading. Some key points that I'm still struggling with S24 are... 1. Shutter lag ( After installing all necessary apps / Camera Assistant) still facing shutter lag. On iPhone, I never even thought about it. After switching, I came to know that this shutter lag also existed. 2. Over exposed images. 3. My eyes get tired after using it for 3/5 hours. In the iPhone, I never felt like that. May be I will be used to it after a few months. Or may be I will sell it. I'm not sure. 4. Most importantly, holding with a single hand is quite difficult. Where Iphone is more comfortable. I have many points to share, but overall, it's a good competition between both phones. Try it.

Don't mean to burst your bubble, but I doubt it, and I'd like to be proven wrong. Blackmagic always seems to have their nose in the air, so once again, I say screw them. I will continue using the Open Camera app. 😢

Regarding other Android phones: blame Google and their horrible camera API support (guess why you can't use all your cameras in tons of apps, only front and main back). OTOH, look what happen to GCAM, so I'm pretty sure this app will be heavily modified to be allowed to run on almost anything that runs Android (without all cams switching...) BTW: I wish BMD would have added BRAW.

That's not it, Other camera apps work on all phones. Camera2 Api and CameraX Api is available with documentation to all developers. Blackmagic has no excuse of not supporting it especially given how big that company is

Google doesn't force manufacturers to use CameraX API or olders versions of Android's camera API, instead, Samsung and other companies just develop their own camera API for their own devices and disabled CameraX, so that leads third party apps like BlackMagic Camera App to do some tricks to sort the limitations because companies just disable some camera functionalities like the access of UltraWide lenses. It's not exactly google's fault or that their horrible api support.

Thanks for being so quick with this video. Just downloaded it (have compatible device) so that's nice. Good to see you can adjust the frame rates (unlike Samsung/Google vs Filmic Pro). So far it looks great with a decent amount of setttings. I may have missed it but would like to see in future releases a way to manipulate the microphone settings to select front/rear mic (like iPhone) and also a way to adjust the audio rec levels up/down, like you can in the standard pro video camera Samsung app. Do a lot of filming at gigs and that feature would be handy, so hope this gets added.

I'm dissapointed. The lack of log and video looks much worse than on the stock Samsung app in pro video. it is even more sharp and the stabilization is worse. This makes the application unusable at this point.

Use Mcpro24fps ;) its far better than the stock one, in my opinion thats the best 3rd party camera app. What is a deal breaker for me? If I am not able to turn off the noise reduction! The footage with the stock camera is horrible, not life like at all, its sooo digitally and oversharpened. Disgusting... On Mcpro24fps you can turn it off, and you can record videos in log format with 10bit as well. Basically you can set up everything what you want and need. Its not a commercial from me :D Its just the truth and a recommendation :)

So, the apk "works" on the Samsung S22 Ultra but the 0.6 doesn't work and for the x3 and the X10 zoom, it's only 1080p, no 4k... And no hdr for any lens...

I've been struggling to find a decent pro video app for my Pixel 7 and this looks like the best candidate so far. There are a couple of weird quirks I've noticed: If I let the app do auto exposure compensation, it will change shutter speed and ISO, but if lock the shutter speed there is no option for auto ISO. A second little annoyance is if I lock the white balance and then change the framerate, the app will resume automatically changing the WB even though the UI will still show it as locked. Hope this can be fixed sometime in the future.

I hope this app will support Sony smartphones in the future, also hopefully the Xperia 1 Mark IV, which isn't the newest. This app with the sony smartphone camera could be a really good pair.

I just installed it on my s21+ and it's working just fine for me. A few options are disabled cos the camera just isn't capable of doing it. Otherwise just a better camera app for the phone. P.S. I sideloaded that app from Uptodown

I've downloaded and used on the Samsung S24 Ultra 512Gb (latest Android version). Unfortunately, after a few uses it now will not load at all. I tried restarting, cleaning up the system; no joy. I had to uninstall and reload the app; it now works again.

Interesting. As you know, most video implementations on currently-available phones are NTSC only, ie. 24fps, 30fps, 60fps, etc. PAL-land (Europe, etc. 25fps, 50fps) is completely ignored. If you want to mix your phone footage with PAL footage in Resolve, you are going to get dropped frames on the phone footage. This camera app seems to offer 25p and 50p, which if true would be an excellent, possibly miraculous, breakthrough. However, there is a small phrase in Blackmagic's announcement. Frame rates are available "depending on your phone model". So there's the mystery. Perhaps later we will see a more detailed review.

At first, I was incredibly exited but now I'm disappointed. It turns out that the former Filmic Pro team made this camera with a BM interface. On the plus side it's free. But it doesn't work for the most phones, not even on my Xiaomi flagship. Might as well buy an iphone.

The apk on the 13 Ultra works with 3x and 5x modules and front. Better than nothing. Why the 0.5x is not working is strange as it shares the same sensor as the 3x and 5x.

@@SHAMANMX Thanks, but I bought MotionCam after hearing a lot of tales about RAW on my phone. But fortunately, I quickly realized that it was made not for real filming, but for tech geeks. Its first problem is the same as this camera from BM. It works well on a small number of flagships. The second is that it is not about filming on a mobile phone, since your phone will have no memory left for anything other than a file for the conditional twenty minutes of recording in equal measure. This is despite the fact that with adequate use of Log (Filmic Pro, mpro24fps) I can record for hours. And don't clean the memory. In terms of quality, I’ll just say that in addition to my hobby, I often place a phone on the set as an additional camera. And then I can easily match her log with big cameras. Now I often see that many authorities in the industry say exactly the same thing. I bought one mсpro24fps license and installed it on three of my Android phones. And on each of them it works flawlessly. Filmic Pro was removed due to subscription. I wanted to try a camera from Blackmagic, I thought it would really be something made from scratch by a cool company.

On the Redmi Note 8T, it is recommended to switch the camera module to the main one at the first launch in order to avoid crashes. In general, the application is not bad and works well. It's a pity only on Android 14 and above only. But all this is uncritical.

Приложение работает неплохо на Redmi Note 8T. Однако при первом запуске рекомендуется сменить модуль камеры. Так как съёмка идёт не с основного модуля, а макро. Из-за можно получить вылет приложения. Программная стабилизация не работает, но зато всё остальное работает как надо. Разве что нельзя отключить подавитель шума и резкость, что есть в других приложениях. Что не критично.

Installed App, tried it, seeemed to work fine. Then when I actually needed to use it, it crashed. Black screen, no buttons worked, but the sound meters were working. Tried a settings reset...nothing. Had to uninstall and reinstall the app. I'm sure this will be fixed in future updates but not a good start. Samsung S23 Ultra.

I downloaded it on my Pixel 7 Pro and I was not amazed. There are so many things I had to put my finger on and I wrote most of it to the devs on google play. Can mention some, get stretched footage, settings doesn't save when zoom-unzoom, and they use generic camera driver, so do get better quality with the native camera app itself. So it is just an app like most others, made for iphone and ported to android, and that's a shame since most new android phones have way better camera than iphone.

I'm using the Samsung s24 Ultra and the software is loading the controls only in portrait mode so even if I turn on the setting for vertical images the volume controls in the heads up display are all sideways because it doesn't orientate at the top and bottom like all the videos are showing. Not sure what's keeping it from working like shown
