hi. thanks for this video. about auto focus: do I understand correctly? you need to tap the screen to set the focus to the object you tapped on. (besides setting focus manually using rhe slider). QUESTION: how can I set auto focus when I film myself for talking head videos? I would have to walk towards the phone and tap the screen, but obviously my face would not be in the canvas at that moment. any solution for this?

You are very welcome. If you’re just filming yourself, it’s gonna be OK. You don’t have to tap anything. The autofocus is quite good as it is.

Excellent video, the best explanation, I have a question if the files that I record in Apple Log can be reproduced with rec709 color space from the iPhone or will they be seen in Apple Log as a flat image? I would take my files to Davinci Resolve to do the conversion but my producer who doesn't understand much would use those files for social networks without carrying out the conversion process. I would have to see the sitting you are using… are you shooting an automatic or manual mode? If you push the ISO a little bit high, then you get a lot of noise.

Just downloaded the app. First thing I tried was to switch back and forth between the front facing camera and rear facing camera while recording. It looked fine while recording, but when I went to play the videos back, one of camera views was upside down. Whichever camera I start recording with shows up fine, but the camera I switch to always shows up upside down during playback. Have you encountered this problem, and if so, found a solution? 17:19 I'm not getting any auto-exposure when touching the screen with the ISO button selected. In fact, it doesn't appear to make any difference when you're touching the screen in the video. Is this functionality gone? In a previous version there was an Auto button at the top of the ISO selector. That's gone and I can't seem to get any kind of auto-exposure.

I figured it out! If you have the shutter angle/shutter speed LOCKED, there is no Auto Exposure button in the Exposure Compensation menu. I guess you can't have the app use only ISO to set the exposure? Weird, as most filmmakers want to lock the fps and shutter speed and since we can't adjust the iris, ISO is all that's left. So you either get AE but no way to lock the shutter speed or you have to manually control exposure. And, sorry to burry the lead, another great video explaining everything in a way that even a simpleton like me can understand...almost understand!

Why Blackmagic camera app turns off the flashlight light after I turn it on my iPhone 15 Pro Max whenever I use Blackmagic camera app to record videos at night or in the dark room? Without flashlight light on, it records black videos in the dark room. Apple camera app lets iphone flashlight light on whenever I record videos in the dark or at night. Blackmagic should update this featurue "flashlight light when I turn it on or off" by using Blackmagic camera app on iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max.

You need to have the iPhone 15. The models don’t have the log capability. That’s why it’s nit showing up in Blackmagic.
