I really appreciate that you *don’t* immediately buy a new carb for stuff. It allows us to all see that you can indeed bring some of these old parts back to life without replacing them. It really takes the "mystery" out of these parts and kind of teaches us to think through the problem critically and come up with unique solutions to problems and trace back to the actual source of the problems. More importantly, it fits with your motif of reusing and repurposing whenever possible.

99% of the time youll replace a usable carb with an untunable chinese carb and run your engine lean until its quick demise anyways. When you can just clean your carb in 1 week less time.

I'm glad he addressed the not rushing to buy new parts approach. One of the things I like about Mustie1's videos is that he tries very hard to make due with what he has on hand. There's a certain power to repair/maintenance projects that comes from avoiding raw out of pocket expense when possible. It's also environmental in the sense that we are extracting more utility from these items that took resources to manufacture in the first place. Excellent carb anaylsis and repair!! Cool video!

What you could do is put in a inline filter in between your parts washer container and your parts washer to make your solvent last a lot longer. When I was in foster care, my foster father was a small aircraft mechanic and that's what he did to his parts washer. The solvent or cleaner will last a lot longer before you end up having to change to new cleaner. Just a thought.

Darren, I have a cousin that I worked with, and he used to run to the hardware store every time he needed fasteners. We both worked for a guy that does mechanical demo, and I persuaded him to save bolts from stuff we took apart. He started using cut down tea containers (half gallon), and now he rarely needs to buy stuff since he has them handy. I think my dad used to save ALL the bolts and screws that he disassembled, and now my brothers are going through the stuff that he had saved. My oldest brother will probably take some with him when he goes back home. I'm fortunate to be able to get new fasteners from a truck accessory distributor, so I'll not need to save many old ones except the stainless steel ones. I generally like to reuse them as they're to expensive to throw away, and it's not worthwhile to scrap them.

You are patient with yourself even though you know what you are doing. I contrast this with myself who is impatient and critical with my efforts, expecting things to come right first try... you by contrast are curious and endlessly exploring. Unafraid you poke and prod expecting things to explode and are actually happy when they do. Thank you for teaching me. Hi there, the carb for that is thesame size as the carb for your honda ct70. Oil is also over filled since the oil dipstick has a broken tip. Those engines are easy to work on and fun to use also. Hope you enjoy the bike.

Thanks mate, the young fella at the end was good too. Can't help wanting one of those bikes he talks about. I'd talk him into wanting a Victa lawnmower. Anyway, that little bike you're working on looks like a beauty! I hope you get the other one going as well.

Word of the day - when you are carefully dismantling something small and intricate, the little pieces that suddenly fly everywhere are called "pingphuckits".

"Turn the gas on... first step on any motorcycle. You won't go far without it..." gives me flashbacks to running down the battery, then trying to push-start mine for about half an hour. Then getting diagnostic tools out and only then noticing that the fuel was off... couple riding seasons in a row. :)

I remember back in the day they sold tiny stickers for your fuel tank ,"TURN THE GAS ON STUPID ". This helped me greatly, as my Honda CB would have enough gas in the carb to get me to the first intersection and THEN die. 😀

@@newsferd1638 Thinking about it, a "remove before flight" tag on the gas shutoff would be a great idea. Though knowing me i'd be distracted by something and would try to actually remove it lol

You're going to have fun changing that tube mustie1. I replaced the tube on my son's pit bike. Those small tubes a bear to change. I'm sure the guys that do it everyday have a trick. I used a lot of soapy water and WD-40. Have a great week!
