One of your best videos, not only with great photography but by being informative and sentimental. The close ups, photo angles and night shots added to the experience of being there. Nice work.

You probably weren’t born yet, but in 1982, Utah got massive amounts of snow. Snowbird and Alta were open for skiers in July. The meltwater from that snow caused State Street in downtown SLC to be an actual river. And the Great Salt Lake truly isolated Antelope Island from the mainland. Water was everywhere. But that was an one-off weather pattern, and now it’s horrible how bad the lake is. Thank you for doing this video. I loved seeing my old stomping grounds. The rocks that you were passing by on the way to the peak are over 1.7 billion years old, some of the oldest rock found in the USA. When I was at the U, I had a field geology course that took us out there, though I’m not sure the rocks were dated back then, as I attended college about 1.7 billion years ago.

Salt is a natural antibacterial agent. Hence the widespread use of saline IVs in hospitals. I would be more worried if it was a fresh-water lake. 😊

Glad you still visit parts of Utah. Brings back a lot of memories for me from 2017/2018 when visiting from New Zealand. The reflection in the lake IS stunning. My favourite photo (hanging on our living-room wall) is of my wife standing on the waters edge with herself, distant mountains and a rich blue sky reflected in the mirror-flat lake.

Another great video. It seems amazing that it was so beautiful yet uncrowded with such a large population living nearby. My favorite part of this video was your relating of Cassie’s decision all those years ago that you were ‘the one’😊. Another favorite part was your customary closing statement “see you in the next one”. Looking forward to it!

Awesome. I could be envious, but that would not be the healthy response. I'm happy that you can do these things and that you share them with us. I had my time to travel. Now my daughter does it for me. She is leaving for Antarctica in December. I have been on the road from Wendover to Salt Lake City. Actually began in Sacramento. Quite a trip. We think 'exotic' must be in far countries, but it can be in our backyards too.

Look forward to seeing you on Saturdays. So sad to see the water in the west drying up. I’m in the high CO mountains and the population in my county Tripled in 2022. But all those new homes have new wells that are going dry because the newbies don’t conserve water.

Kind of like when the "great inland sea" dried up, leaving the Great Plains high and dry. And there weren't even any people around to use up all that water. That probably smelled petty bad at the time too. Just saying.

During one of my desert southwest roadtrips (coming from the Netherlands) I did visit Anntelope Island once. It was on a warm sunny day and driving up the causeway to the island I saw what I initially thought was the warm air rising, but I soon found out it were bugs, millions and millions of them! The whole front of the (rental) car was covered with their corpses, the numberplate was unreadable! Going outside, they were unavoidable and highly annoying. So I only drove around the island, saw the bizons, and was out of there. Horrible.

The pink tinge is from brine shrimp--considerably smaller than the shrimp we buy in the grocery store. They only thrive in the extra salty parts of the lake, like the northern half of the lake (which is saltier than the southern half of the lake; the halves are divided by the railroad causeway, so they don't mix very well). I assume that the pink part was Stansbury Bay, which I'm guessing also probably doesn't mix very well with the rest of the lake.

Thanks for this video. I remembered it when looking for a place to camp while in the SLC area. I'm currently in one of the campgrounds on Antelope Island, and it really is a magical place. It's still hot, so no big hikes for my dog and me. We're content with short walks, gazing at the lake, and enjoying the sunsets. I'd never heard of this place before, so thanks for featuring it. I'm glad it also holds a special, personal memory for you as be Cassie!

Man, I’ve really sold the Great Salt Lake short. I remember floating there as a kid and being amazed at the odd extra buoyancy. Do they still swim there, or did the beach get too long and mucky? Amazing island summits. Really never considered even visiting them. Outstanding imagery as usual. Thank you.

Beautiful, I love wide open spaces and also salt lakes. I'm surprised the water there is used for drinking etc, must take a lot of treatment to get the salt out. I've been to quite a few salt lakes on my travels here in Australia. Lake Lefroy near Kambalda in WA is one of my favourites, it's very big and it has a few small gold mines operating along the edges. They hold sailing races there on wheeled boards with sails as there is usually no water.

Enjoyed seeing your tour of the islands. I finally got to visit the Salt Lake area and Antelope Island in June of 2018. It’s a wonderful place for photographers! Really enjoyed seeing the lake and reflections, wandering through the phragmite reeds at White Rock Bay, and seeing the crossing trails of humans and bison on the beach flats there. One bison posed on a high ridge for me. Neat place and I plan to return.

Great video. I found it interesting that your wife had such fond memories of climbing Frary Peak. I took my wife up there shortly after we married in early spring when the bugs were out bad. It was breezy when we started so it wasn't bad, but the wind died, and by time we got down she had been torn up big time by the gnats. She was mad at me for taking her up there for weeks afterwards.
