FREE Craftsman Riding Lawn Mower - Can We Fix It?

A few months back some friends dropped off this free Craftsman riding lawn mower/lawn tractor off at my house. We got it running but it had some problems that needed to be addressed including the fuel tank. In this video we show how to replace the gas tank for a Craftsman GT3000. This Craftsman lawn tractor comes with a 50 inch deck and 24hp V-Twin Kohler engine. Check out this video to see ya fix up this free old lawn mower!

Just for future reference, I’d had great luck sealing those old plastic tanks with Seal All. Sand the area you’ll be applying it to and clean really well with alcohol. I let it dry 48 hours before adding gas back to it

yea i would of tried J-B TankWeld before buying a new tank that appears to cost around 100 dollars

I plastic weld em with zip ties , works great and never had a leak. , when fixing a small seam leak I weld the whole seam around the tank cause ya know id ya don't they gonna leak in another spot sooner than later

A leaf blower helps keep the garage floor clean. You can also use it too purge the fuel tank with the grommet out. :)

No criticism, but the filter is on backwards, you won't see if the fuel is dirty that way 😅easy mistake, I've done it myself!

Fuel filter was put on backwards, I believe. It'll work but you won't see when it's dirty. Also agree that the mouse nests must get cleaned out of the fins or it'll overheat. Great job involving your son in the fixes.

Yep, was just going to make same comment. Typically there’s fuel flow direction arrow on them.

I miss doin stuff like this. I studied small engine repairs at the career center during my junior and senior years of high school. I fixed up my dads 93 MTD Yardman and ended up selling it because I wasnt allowed topp have it at my apartment 🙃

You need to remove the tins and clean behind them the mice love cramming stuff in there. Also you can adjust the valves if it's clacky.

I agree, mouse nests crammed up in the cooling fins will cause overheating and eventually engine failure.

Steve's Small Engine Saloon channel did a test on does it matter gapping a spark plug. He gap one .010, and bent the other plug to,099 Found still ran the same. His conclusion on a Honda Push mower if it is not running. It is not because of the spark plug gap. Search The Spark Plug Gap Is NOT Critical (With SHOCKING Proof)

Good you can do the repairs your self. Repair shop now days. You be looking at $500 easy.
