I've been doing this for a few years prior to anyone giving it a name, I always called it a Half Guard Bump Sweep. I don't change my leg configuration from the half guard, everything else is the same. Super effective!!!

Octopus seems like a very dynamic guard where a lot of movement needs to happen quickly. It looks a lot like wrestling. What kind of weight training/ drilling would help to improve octopus guard, in the same way, wrestlers tend to do a lot of body weight drills?
@diamondcutterandf5989 ай бұрын
Been thinking about this. Definitely explosive hip thrusts, squats and core exercises like sit ups. Turkish get up is also a superb exercise. The ability to get on your elbow fast and explode fast requires all that.

What is a Kosoto Hook exactly?
@rumpeldumpel6752 жыл бұрын
Looks like the standard "knee torque" you do in the old school half guard sweep. You pull his ankle outward with your free leg (not the half guard-hooked leg) to make him turn his hips.
@jasontodd74962 жыл бұрын

What keeps the opponent from reaching around the back of your neck for a arm put guillotine after you "beat" the cross face?
@johnteds47612 жыл бұрын
The head placement. For him to get the cross fade would compromise base and give the sweep. Tristar gym has a KZbin video with someone named coach zahabi who explains this from a similar position.

Marcelo Garcia beats this 100% of the time. As soon as you reach for the leg, he gets a seatbelt, sprawls to break your grip, takes your back and probably chokes you before the hooks are in because your neck is so open. The leg inside halfguard will come out easily once you have the seatbelt with a little turn of the hips. Probably as you are reaching for that leg marcelo is going to knee cut pass bc there's so much space between your legs.
