I did wrestling 13-17 Then didn't do any serious training again until i was 24. 24 started jiu jitsu and fell in love with it right as i was studying to get into grad school. now im in grad school and obssessed with this martial art. jiu jitsu is the coolest thing ever. its making my wrestling better too. teaching me a lot about life. I just turned 26. first jiu jitsu tournament is in a few weeks. I want to compete for at least 20 more years. this stuff is amazing and genuinely makes my life better

This is pretty damn close to the philosophy which I found really helped my BJJ game. The idea of being sticky in one direction, but slippery in another direction. You stick to people and make it very hard for them to pass your guard, but you give them a certain direction in which they can move. Once they move that direction, you transition to a more offensive position because you are ready for them to pass and you use that to your advantage.

Teaching philosophy is always better than teaching individual combos or moves. As a boxing coach I always taught using that method. Too many coaches get caught up in repetition. I'm not saying it's not important as well. But it is so valuable to teach someone why something works. It will help them in application.

Theses aren’t new concepts. Rickson has been teaching this for years. Instead of stickiness he talks about connections, and instead of a move for every scenario and thinking about basic themes, like G. Ryan talked about, Rickson talks about Conceptual Jiu Jitsu. It’s basic connection and concepts. This is why G. Ryan is one of the GOATs

Since watching this video I’ve taken on the BJJ champions and they have never been able to pass my guard because of what I learned in this video even though I have no other skills.

@@joserobles4875 Thanks for the encouragement bro.I train a small school in Northfield Minnesota called Pearson Brazilian jujitsu Academy. Our instructor is super humble and loves what he does. So I feel like I’m in the right place to learn.🤙🏽

Gordon has amazing grappling. Wish his wrestling would be up to par, he could a force in MMA like his teammate Tonan.

He's young he should stay in jiu jitsu. See how much better he can become. How much more he can achieve. If he left jiu jitsu it would be boring.

It’s all advanced basics. Very common it seems for competitors whose teachers or grand teachers were from the Gracie fam. Renzo-Danaher-Gordon, Helio-Royler-Xande.
