Thoroughly enjoyed this upload! I've had my DW920 for over 16 years now and it works today just like it did the very first day! Best cordless screwdriver I've ever owned... Thumbs up from me on this upload... Stay safe... Rico

Agree that dw920 is the best. I had to stick a crowbar into my wallet and pull out $100 20 years ago... it has been the best electric tool ever... right size, right amount of power.

Thanks to your video, the only online regarding my DE920, I was able to make the same repairs repair as you featured.

This video saved me. Same issue with a broken wire. When pulling apart the case to replace the wires the gearbox came apart and I had no clue how to put it back together. I had bearings and parts everywhere. Luckily I found all the parts and was able to reassemble everything. I also found 2 internal screws very loose and tightened them. Thanks so much for this video.

This model is a great electric screwdriver. It does have tremendous as well for a little thing. I’ve had mine for over 10 years. I use it five days a week. I had a little bit of smoke come out of the motor few times when under heavy load, but it’s still kicking.

Thanks for the video. It enabled me to repair my dewalt screwdriver. It needed new wires soldered on. Before your video, i was stuck trying to figure out how to access the motor. I also liked your technique of putting the solder on your vice while tinning the wires.

Thanks for all your time and effort with this video, ... I found this same drill off the refuse route and was scratching my head as what direction I was going to take. I got the drill and charger, ... but my co-worker had cycled the batteries in the packer before I could stop him. I think I will try picking up a new battery and try this before disassembly. Take care and thanks again!!! Art

Thank you! Excellent video. My drill stopped working a few days ago and I'm going to try and fix it now after having watched your video. By the way this is my favorite electric screwdriver because its the only inline electric screwdriver with variable speed .

Brother, you are one clever individual. Enjoyed this video very much! I just purchased this device at home depot and came across your video while looking at reviews. The engineering design on the clutch was indeed fascinating. Cheers man!

Hey netnole thanks a lot for that compliment, I don't know how clever I am but I've taken apart so many thousand things in my time that I eventually started understanding how stuff works and can occasionally get stuff to work again :) I'm really glad you enjoyed it, check back because I have another 2 "can it be saved" episodes on the plate that I hope to do before too long. Thank you for spending your time watching my video. ~Z

Very nice video 👍. Thanks. Inspired me not to open the innards of a Dewalt 920. I will stick to the electrical part, rejuvenating the battery pack. 😁

I just bought a used one for $20. Charged one battery and meaaured the voltage. +8v. Popped the battery in and nothing. I then ohmed the inside battery connections +&-, pressed trigger and got .003 ohms forward and rev. My guess is either the motor is toast or the 2 wires are touching where it pivots. Thanks for the teardown. I'm not planning on opening up the planetary gears. May spray some lithium grease inside somehow or some light oil if I can get the motor to work. Again, thanks

Brilliant video, I'm a soft Furnisher so I take apart and fix my sewing machines and even my Henry hoover....and they worked again. It is such a thrill to do. My dewalt screw driver has given up on me and I'm not sure if both batteries are dead or it's the pinched wires🤪 . I'm hoping it's the batteries lol thanks again

It really is a solid tool, and one I'll use a lot. I think knowing where it wears is helpful because if you keep the bending to a minimum you may never have to fix it.

Just found one of those at a thrift store for $2.00.I have been able to find the user manual and instruction manuals but not a pdf file with the exploded parts diagram. Great video , I also find and repair old tools (power and hand). When I find them online I ask - does it work and has to have as little plastic as possible.

What type of grease should I use and what areas to put it in, thank you for such a good informative video I appreciate your time that you put into it, I have the same one, it is working right now,but my two batteries that came with it in the case are over, and I don't know how to go about it or should just buy those cheap ones at eBay, what do you think? Can the brushes be replaced on this motor and if so are they the same brushes that would be used on any other Dewalt drill motor?

Hey Scott, sorry for the slow reply. If you're referring to this drill specifically, I'd say a neo-magnet glued on to the end of something. push the collar of the drill down and then pull the broken part out with the magnet. worth a shot
