For the final episode of MUNCHIES Guide to Oaxaca, we head to a secluded piece of paradise along the Pacific coast to a beach called Aguablanca. Here, host Daniel Hernández meets a group of freestyle divers who fish for lobsters, oysters, and scallops with basic tools and a lot of guts. These divers go fishing almost every day of the year and sell their catch in nearby Puerto Escondido. From the sea to the table, Daniel and his friends finish the day by enjoying the freshest seafood feast possible. Just another day on the beach in Oaxaca.

I often come back to this video just because of how serene it is. Mexico is unfortunately corrupt and in ruin in some towns, but there is still a natural beauty within it, that aren’t touristy towns like Cancun. Just honest people with honest lives. God bless them

good looking video, great cinematography, getting hungry. From another freediver, spearfisher to you, 30ft is nothing special, most can learn that with a freedive instructor in a few hours. Beyond 30m it becomes special I'd say. These divers could save a lot of energy if they would use snorkels.

Its quite sad that theres so many problems with tourists getting abducted etc in Mexico right now, if it all cooled down, i would love to go on a long trip throught out it visiting every part, one year travel so i would have enough time. Im a chef and i would love to meet all these people that cook with basic stuff they grew up around. Truly majestic for European that has to drop his roots to keep his job
@DeanJr6913

hahaha what? Mexico isn't dangerous for tourists. its narco on narco violence. And for the tourists that were abducted in Mexico, look at what they were doing before they were abducted, as well as where they were. I'm so sick of people like you that think Mexico is dangerous. If your looking for sex and drugs, you're going to find trouble easily. If not, you'll be totally fine. I've lived in Mexico and will be living there again very soon. I strongly advise you to go to Mexico and see for yourself how it Actually is.

People got to understand that before the spanish conquest, Zapotecs used to eat animals like Iguanas, turtles, armadillo, deer, jaguars and many other things. Zapotecs were never conquered by the spanish, that's why they remain speaking zapoteco and that is why they preserved so much of their traditional cooking. Turtles are now an endangered species but because ALL the HUMANS around the globe are killing the ocean. Yes it is bad that we eat them and their eggs ( I used to because it is cultural, almost like chicken eggs for breakfast). But you got to understand the context : that only back in 1990 the federal government did something to protect the turtles. It is hard to change an habit of hundred and hundrend years. It is like suddenly PETA made illegal to eat chicken.

To be honest, 30ft isn't that deep for an experienced diver such as these guys, actually diving to 30ft is pretty easy even without fins. They're short-selling how deep these guys can probably go, I'm guessing they could be comfortable around 60 or deeper for fishing purposes. Also, 30ft pressure is pretty minimal if you equalize properly so I don't know why he's making it out to be so intense. Regardless, awesome video, you all gotta try spearfishing and cooking up the catch right out of the water, greatest thing ever.

Yea the video was great, all the food looked exquisite and incredibly tasty. On the other hand it's a shame that their taking the female lobsters full of roe, that's hundred of thousands of eggs that will never hatch, and by looking at the size of the lobsters it looks like their pretty over fished. Diving thirty feet is great, but beginners do that, if these guys do this day in and day out I would have thought they would have explored the deeper reefs 60 - 90 feet to find bigger prey.

+Rom Sam I Mr. Rom, what you don't know is that this people catch the and bring the first from the day, and you are right when you said that they shouldn't catch the lobsters with eggs, but there not over fish because believe it or not there are very control by the government, and this is a small fisherman community, not like in Japan, here's plenty of seafood...
