Those fish don't get very large but are plentiful and not many if any predators in the shallows at that size. Plus she also mentions about grilling/eating the full fish yields more than just a cut of fillet. Plus you'd want to diversify your meal as well, one small fish on it's own is not much but the one tako and those three reef fish is well enough to be part of a meal that likely fed several people.

She is a badass, but that's not the Octopus' head, it's the body. The body is on top, head (eyes, most of brain and mouth) is in the middle, and the arms are on the bottom. Also, she's right about where the brain is, but their nervous system is partly decentralized, a lot of it is in the arms.
@MsCherade95 жыл бұрын
@@davidsauro1793 2/3rds are in the arms yeah. Though the method she uses to kill the Octopus is the most humane I've seen so far. I love Octopus but until they can be killed humanely I'm not willing to eat one. They are exceptionally intelligent, although their intelligence is very alien to us. We know how to kill livestock and poultry humanely, and where I live in Scotland it's pretty easy to get humanely killed animals. Octopus are a relatively unique species when it comes to intelligence and the combination of difficulty of killing them humanely puts it over the line for me.

I have a feeling that showing a lot of the aspects of spearfishing just wouldn't go down very well with the core audience of Bon Appetit videos (that core audience being young people who live in cities and that sort of thing). Just the hunting and killing aspect of it would probably upset a lot of people who watch these videos, even though most of those people eat fish and meat anyway. I personally have no problem with it at all and would have definitely loved to see more of the actual spearfishing part of this process, but most younger people these days just go and buy their meat already prepared and don't necessarily like to think about the killing part of it, which is a huge part of spearfishing or hunting in general. Couple that with the facts that spearing fish comes off as a bit more brutal than just normal rod and reel fishing, and the fish or octopus don't die immediately after being speared, and you've probably got a recipe for some upset millennials. Brad also seemed to get the hang of it pretty quickly; quicker than he normally picks up on a new skill, so this video didn't have as long of a section devoted to Brad failing at first before he got the technique down as many of the other videos do. Just my take on it.
@videoguy6405 жыл бұрын
@@STSGuitar16 I don't think that's the reason its shorter tho as they showed a few direct kills, and even Kimi biting the octopus to take it out of its misery. They probably just wanted to avoid the dead time of them just swimming around looking for fish
@Sam-si4ip5 жыл бұрын
STSGuitar16 I disagree as I would far rather have seen more of the actual process, and I’m one of this younger generation your on about, and I know plenty of people my age would agree with me and don’t just buy their meat without thinking where it comes from and instead respect the ways in which the meat is obtained
@Sam-si4ip5 жыл бұрын
STSGuitar16 also with what you say about rod and reel fishing, that it probably less humane as you hook the fish, and bring them out of the water to kill them as opposed to doing it in the water with a spear that likely kills almost instantly
