I've been watching video after sewing videos to teach myself to sew at a late age in life. I was kicked out of HomeEc and didn't have any interest in learning anything "domestic" from my homemaker mother back in the day. Never have I ever seen sooooo many pins used to pin anything together and you even sewed over them! Virtually every video I've watched a person has mentioned NOT to EVER sew over pins. I didn't see a problem when you sewed over them. The world didn't end or anything.

Thank you for watching the video Laurie. I started sewing doll clothes in the 1950's with a needle and thread. We didn't have computers until I became an adult so I was never told not to sew over pins. I've broken my share of sewing machine needles and still leave pins in sometimes. I am learning to remove the pins or to be more careful. Overall, I prefer to use them rather than have fabric go cattywampus messing us the sewing project and causing me to have to take out the stitching. Laurie, just do whatever works best for you. Happy Sewing.

Thank you so much for the pattern!! Once I watched your video, I was able to make this in a couple hours after 3 days of trying to do it on my own. With so much fabric ruined. Love your work!!! 🌹

Good job, looks easy. You didn’t mention what the seam allowance was. Looked like either 3/8 or 1/2 inch. Thank you for the pattern.❤

1/2 inch seams -- good catch

I love the speeded up, no nonsense no chatting, approach. Do you think a no stretch fabric cut on the bias could work?
@PatriciaVollbrecht4 жыл бұрын
I have not tried a non-stretch fabric. The problem is whether or not your head will fit through the hole you cut after adding the turtleneck seam. The seam will make the hole even smaller so plan for that. Please let me know how it goes, ok? I'm glad you liked the video.

Another problem is that although the bias cut may stretch well enough to get your head through, unlike a stretchy knit, it won't spring back into shape and you will likely be left with a rather boggy neckline.

@@jacqulyndavis.7039 If you have some scrap material (I know I sure do), I would try it and see what happens. Now that you've asked the question, I am curious. I am going to try cutting on the bias of a non-stretch fabric. I am pretty tied up right now but should get it done within two weeks. I'll get back to you. Good question BTW!

Yes Linda, you can use a non-stretch fabric. I just finished a Dickie using a non-stretch fabric. I needed nearly one yard of fabric and used the same instructions as in the video. I placed my pattern so the stretch is on the bias like you suggested, in-other-words, tilted so the stretch is across the narrow width of the main pattern piece. After I cut the main pattern piece out and the head hole, I tried to pull it over my head but it was too tight so I trimmed 1/4 inch and tried again. It slipped over my head. Then I measured all the way around the head hole for the measurement to cut the piece for the collar. My measure was 19 inches, I added 1 inch for a seam (1/2 inch seams) and cut out a 6 x 20 inch piece on the bias for the collar. I basted the short ends together and slipped it over my head. It was just right. I used my Serger to attach the collar and had to Serge all the way around the outside of the main piece to keep it from unravelling. You don't have to worry about unravelling if you are using a knit fabric. Thanks for asking the question. I like the look it is looser around the neck and more attractive.

Willow make sure the hole fits your head before you measure for the collar. Good luck.
